Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter was released on the PlayStation 2, Xbox, Xbox 360 and PC. A PlayStation 3 version was rumored but likely cancelled though I still don't know if there ever was going to be one.

The PS2 and Xbox version were FPS games whereas the 360 and PC version were third person squad based shooters.

The Story:
GRAW takes place over two days in 2013 in which you take the role of Captain Scott Mitchell, a squad leader in the Ghosts, an elite unit of light infantrymen in the US Army. Mexican separatists have attacked a North American summit going on in Mexico City, and they have killed the Canadian Prime Minister, while both the US and Mexican presidents have gone missing. Along the course of the game's campaign, you'll need to rescue both presidents, recover the Nuclear Football [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nuclear_Football] that was also lost by the US president, and take out the leader of the uprising.

Gameplay, Controls and Graphics:
Oh, god, if you've played it on the PC or 360 then you should have no desire to play this version. Just like every other FPS on the sixth generation of consoles the whole gameplay consists of running down linear corridors and shooting enemies made of the thickest polygons you have probably ever seen. Honestly, take a look at the two screenshots below and tell me which on is better.

Exactly, Ubisoft couldn't make the graphics on the PS2 and Xbox actually look like 6th gen graphics? If they really didn't want to make the game playable why make the damn thing at all? This game came out in 2006. Halo 2 came out two years earlier and had better graphics that GRAW. And because the graphics are so terrible the game is quite hard to play. Sure you can beat the game in day but enemies tend to blend-in with the levels (the most prominent colors are black, tan, and brown and all the enemies wear green), even with the locator thing, so you just throw the controller at the cat.

You only have on teammate Ramirez and here is the problem with squad based shooters that I have. Your teammates typically have no fucking AI. Games like SOCOM actually feature teammates with real AI but GRAW gives you a cretin who gets gun downed no matter what. There are only a few times in the game that he is actually useful. Every other time you just tell him to stay in one spot while you go and do all the actual work.

The controls are you standard FPS controls. Movement is solid and by solid I mean you barely can. Ducking doesn't do shit half the time, crouching is even worse, and God hates you.

Another thing I should note is the auto-save system. It will fuck up your gameplay. I actually had this happen to me once: I was running back to an area and the game auto-saved and right as it did an enemy through a grenade thus killing me and as soon as I reloaded that save I fucking died again. So if I was to reload I would be stuck in a endless loop of dying and frustration.

Multiplayer:
I didn't play multiplayer and I don't know of anyone who did cause the game was terrible to begin with. So why would you keep playing it?

Conclusion: It's kind of playable but it still sucks!! Stick to playing SOCOM. SOCOM does the whole squad thing better and you actually have three other guys helping you that know what they're doing. SOCOM! SOCOM! SOCOM! SOCOM! SOCOM! SOCOM! SOCOM! SOCOM! SOCOM! SOCOM! SOCOM! SOCOM! SOCOM! SOCOM! SOCOM! SOCOM! SOCOM! MOTHER-FUCKING SOCOM!

Final Score: -4/10

Interesting. That PC screenshot has noticable differences from my 360 version. Like, really really serious differences. Do I have the same GRAW you have?

Anyways, your review reads a lot like a rant. Yes, I'm aware that you titled it partially as a rant, but even then you're being pretty unfair to the game. A negative score out of ten and a conclusion of "it sucks" don't add credibility to the review aspect.

You condemn the Xbox/PS2 graphics quite heavily, but the provided screenshot looks pretty typical of those platforms.

Also, enemies that blend in are intentional, they're wearing camouflage.

Damn, this was really a rant. I get that the game sucked cause I played it too but did you really need to make this? And I think that PC screenshot might actually not be from GRAW PC, but I don't have the game anymore to check.

Well, its a rant all right. the SOCOM part is completely unnecessary and you spend more time talking about graphics than actual substance. I would say that the 6th gen graphics look like 6th gen graphics and that you should take a look at Halo 2 again because it has some pretty terrible textures as well, that's how the last gen was, it still had flaws. I feel like you may be trying to channel Yahtzee a bit too much, just write a review not a rant. I enjoyed the x-box version actually, but I was playing it casually with a friend.

That's funny, the graphics on the Xbox screenshot don't look much like the graphics I got on my Xbox when playing the game. Yet I have this feeling that Ubisoft wasn't exactly trying hard to make the game on Xbox, since the 360 version was very good.

Well I've been beaten to pointing out what I don't like about your 'review' so just an FYI, GR:AW on the 360 and PC can be played as either a first person or third person game. As shown by your own PC screenshot.

Good news everyone! A new Ghost Recon is due out for the next fiscal year (2009/2010). Should be good, GR:AW was the best game on the 360 for quite a while so here's looking to the next Ghost outing.
