Random computer shutdowns, but ONLY if I first put my computer to sleep, and upon awakening use it for a while.

If I just keep it running after a clean startup, this doesn't happen.

(PS: If someone knows why this happens, and wants to help me out, I'd be totally cool with that.)

Another one: My old iPod that wouldn't turn on after I let it sit there dead for 6+ months finally turned on the other day. I had tried to charge it multiple times before, but for whatever reason, this time it worked.

friends xbox 360 displayed the red ring of death... still worked but it did turn on by itself in the middle of the night, and ejected the disk while people were playing every couple of hours. he thought it might be possessed

I recall falling asleep and coming back to see all my files rearrange, files opened recently I never opened, etc.

Then I found out I had a trojan and a keylogger on my computer :S

I remember one time while I was in Hamilton, New Zealand staying at a student hostel. My computer which was in sleep mode woke up when I thought 'Hmm, I think I will play more Diablo 2.'

I get this feeling in EVE Online. While I'm out in a pirate anomaly (usually Haven or Sanctum) and tabbed out checking other things as my lasers cycle to chew through the enemy, I sometimes find my lasers mysteriously having deactivated despite me not having killed my current target.

My iPod nano is weird. First it worked fine 'till it got the white screen of death. After a while I replaced it with my brother's iPod nano, as I couldn't get away the white screen of death, and put my iPod into my closet, and let it be there. Then, this summer, when I was finding stuff I wanted to bring on my car trip, my brother's iPod nano (which was now mine) got the white screen of death. I tried everything, and it wouldn't go away. For ze lulz, I brought forth my old iPod nano, which had been in my closet for a year, to see if it worked. It worked perfectly, with no white screen of death.

About a year ago my computer started turning itself on at random times, sometimes around midnight, sometimes when I was making my homework, so after a month I got sick of it and made a program monitoring all power activity (like sleep/power on/power off). After I completed it (took some time, I'm not a really good programmer) I added it to my startup list, and it never happened again. Ever. I already thought Windows Vista might be evil, but now I'm really sure of it.

I have lost two CRT monitors and one television to a same strange thing. First they started shutting down when there is a bright flash, and then taking more and more attempts to get started.

The strangest thing about this is that when I took my last CRT to a repair shop, they found out that even though every single part worked and all connections got power, the whole thing inexplicably just didn't work.

I had a PC that wasn't grounded properly and would reset as I walked across the highy nylony carpet in my uni room. At first I didn't know what it was (due to to the fact I wasn't facing it whenever it happened) but after the 3-5th time of it resetting, I worked out what was going on.

A couple of programming tomes solved that one :D... sat it on the books and it was fine until I got a replacement machine.

One thing that creeped me the hell out is that one day I was listening to my itunes when the song "The Device has Been Modified" by Victims of Science started playing. The creepy part? I never downloaded that song.

I was kinda expecting this to be a Ghost in the Shell thread but this works too.

Sometimes I turn the family TV off, one of those old CRT things, only to have it turn on again out of it's own a few seconds later.
