Well, she seems to have a good grasp on where the demand is. :p

Really, that is all kinds of brilliant. Special merit badge should be given to her for pure genius.

I heard about this in the radio yesterday morning and laughed (as did the DJs), smart kid for understanding supply and demand like that.

You hope that she gets punished for understanding supply and demand? On what grounds could they possibly penalize her anyway?
I get the feeling I was just particularly bitter when I wrote that. It feels inappropriate to me. She thought ahead, and I understand that, but it feels sort of slick to me, in a bad way. I guess when you are 8 or 10, I feel like she would have had to absorb that whole "Pot Gives you the munchies" thing from something she heard from a television show, or watched in a movie, or something an adult said in passing. It just makes me uncomfortable. Maybe I have a bug up my ass about it, but it's not nothing I hope other kids/groups/organizations try not to make a habit of doing, that's all I'm saying. It feels like cheating in some capacity.

Good sense of business that one. Let us hope she doesn't end up a victim of some sort. We are talking about potential pot heads here. Would be a shame for some pedo to get his jollies and know exactly where to find a child?

Nah who am I kidding, this is America! Nothing tragic ever happens to the great people of this great country that we later on have to mourn and wonder why it could ever happen in the first place!

In case you don't get it, the scout is being praised for her business genius, but I for one worry that something may happen to the little bugger. Not that I'm saying remove her from the area by force because at the same time, you just have to go out there and live a little eh?
Dude, these are pot heads, not crack heads. I don't know what anti-marijuana propaganda you've been fed, but seriously, don't you think that's a bit much?

Edit: Changed wording because I didn't want to risk a mod getting the tone wrong.

Why should she be penalized for having a clever idea? They said: go sell cookies, she sold cookies. What's the problem? Where she sold them. Well how is this worse than sending mom and dad with a box to work and not even doing the work yourself - "I'm selling them for my kid" - which is what most encounters with girl scout cookies I've had have been over the years.

Again - cheating more than having the parents end up doing it? Pressuring family at parties to buy your cookies with pleas that you really want to go on the trip they are supposed to fund?

There are children peddling baked goods for money in all events. That itself has always been what bothered me about the whole business.

Maybe her parents smoke pot - hell, mine did, and it wasn't and isn't even legal in this state.

She's not parked outside of a rehab center or a weight loss facility trying to get people hooked back on their habit. There's nothing dirty about this - heck, legal pot shops can sell baked goods with pot in them, very popular I hear. Why not chase your magic brownie with a few thin mints and a glass of milk?

I would - on the other hand - feel slightly better if the article made it more clear if she was chaperoned by a parent during this outing. I mean, I assume she was, and they talked to the mom, but it should have been made very clear in the article that a 13 year old wasn't just out there by herself or at odd hours or whatever.

Pre-emptive stocking up for when the munchies hit.

OT: Egh. It feels a little bit like taking advantage of the situation in a bad way, but that's just because I disapprove of recreational drugs.

But seriously, not a bad plan, get some weed, some cookies, have a nice time. And as long as she isn't buying the Marijuana, I see no harm done

I know that I would be getting these kinds of replies. I'm only surprised that it took longer than I thought.

True words indeed, but anyone, regardless of drugs that can't afford them will do whatever it takes to get the money. Of course they have to get so dependent on the drugs to get to that level of desperation.

Also I don't buy into the whole propaganda, I form my own opinions thank you very much. Assumptions can be disastrous after all.

I say, do whatever makes you happy. Snort cocaine, drink and drive. What is there to stop you? Nothing at all, other than the laws set upon you by society, but who are they to you? Especially if you've decided to take drugs that can have adverse affects on you.

Your life, your call.

You say you don't buy in to the propaganda, but you're acting like physical marijuana addiction is a thing. At the absolute worst, it's a psychological addiction. The girl would have as much likelihood of being attacked by a pothead to get money for his next fix as she would getting attacked by a "food addict" for setting up outside of a grocery store. This isn't heroin, it's not cocaine, and considering the effects of the two drugs, it's not even really comparable to alcohol. As drugs go, it's hard to find something less objectionable than pot, and I say this as a borderline alcoholic.

Edit: Or problem drinker, or whatever. Point is I drink more than I probably should.

I can understand the drinking, as my occupation has made me drink more often than I used to.

Food addict? O........K....... even so, you're saying that a pot head on a high is incapable of doing wrong? Remember it only takes one to make the news.

I'm saying you don't know many pot heads if you think a stoned individual is likely to attack a girl scout selling cookies. There's an old joke: a drunk driver will run a stop sign. A stoned one will wait for it to turn green. It does a pretty good job of encapsulating the difference.

And again, that's alcohol vs. marijuana, not marijuana vs. a harder drug. If you really want to be honest, caffeine addiction is more of a thing than either alcoholism or "marijuana addiction." Caffeine is highly similar to cocaine, both in effects and the ease of addiction. It's a difference of degree, not kind. That's not to minimize the damage caused by alcoholism in particular, let alone cocaine addiction, it's just to point out how absurd the prohibition laws are in this country. If alcohol, tobacco, and caffeine are legal, there's next to no reason to prohibit any other drug. Marijuana least of all.

Edit: Note to mods: I am not advocating that people break the law. I'm advocating a change in it.

I hope you're aware of the irony and hypocrisy of your post. You think it's dangerous to make assumptions and yet you have the stance "If you've chosen to do drugs, why care about any other laws?" making a huge sweeping generalizing assumption. It's kinda like saying that everyone who has ever shoplifted might just murder someone, he's already chosen to violate one law, why would another bother him? Thank you for giving me a good laugh.

I ok with this since originally when I read the title, I thought she had stumble upon a drugy/ mobster drug shop but as an actual drug medicial shop? Fine by me. I mean at least we know where she exactly is especially when she update her Facebook and the medicial place itself is in a public place so she is in a safe location.

Location, location, location.

Girl Scout Danielle Lei knows how to think outside the box when it comes to selling cookies. The 13-year-old recently set up her cookie stand outside the Green Cross medical marijuana dispensary in San Francisco, Calif. Patients bought out Lei's supplies in 45 minutes, as reported on the dispensary's Facebook page, requiring the girl to seek out a larger cookie supply.

In total, Lei sold 117 boxes in only two hours, according to Mashable. The profits from these sales will go to charitable organizations, including several that benefit Alzheimer's research.

Carol Lei, Danielle's mom, is on board with Danielle's unorthodox sales tactics, and not only for the numbers. She believes the experience is a helpful way to start a conversation with her daughter about different kinds of drug use.

"You put it in terms that they may understand," Carol told Mashable. "I'm not condoning it, I'm not saying go out in the streets and take marijuana."

The Green Cross was happy to green-light Lei's cookie stand as well, with staff members buying boxes and keeping their patients updated on Lei's hours through Facebook.

Even the Girl Scouts of Northern California gave Leis' endeavor their approval. The group's director of marketing and communications, Dana Allen, told Mashable that as long as the location was a legitimate business, it was up to parents to choose the place they think their daughters would find success.

Lei's biggest critic might just be the Girl Scouts of Colorado. While recreational marijuana use is now legal in Colorado, the state's troops made it clear on Twitter where they stood on cannabis-clinic cookie stands.

As people may or may not know, marijuana use here in 'Merica is illegal unless you are in a few select states. One of these states is Colorado where this news story takes place and I'm curious what others think about this.

The TLDR of the story is that a 13 year old girl scout (an organization for young girls in America) is selling the famous Girl Scout Cookies in front of a medical marijuana store.

Now currently, you have to be 21 or older to (legally) purchase marijuana in Colorado. Is this a problem that a little girl is selling cookies in front of a store like this? Are you applauding her business-sense? Are you blasting the parents for this? What do you think?

Now I've had a few people on Facebook express that they think there will be an outrage at this but I can't for the life of me think why. It's not some seedy location where the girl will have to fear for her life and marijuana use is perfectly legal where she's at. I suppose being inside to sell it might be a bit more questionable (since it'd be like her selling these cookies in a bar) but she's outside in public on a busy street. What's the problem?
Just one thing, but you might want to re-read your own article. This DOESN'T take place in Colorado, it was in San Francisco, in California. The only mention of Colorado in the article was that the Colorado Girl Scouts won't allow anyone in their jurisdiction to try this.

At any rate, I applaud the girl. She's got good business sense, and as long as her parents can use it in a positive way (as the mother said she would, through talking properly about drug use and so on), then I see no problems here :)

I have read your posts. The likely scenario of something happening to the kid selling outside an MJ dispensary isn't increased any. If she were doing it anywhere, the chances of being harmed by a criminal are fairly similar. Seems more like you're attempting to shift blame for criminal acts to the use of marijuana and away from the actual person who would commit said act, which is totally wrong. Aside from the fact that if someone was going to do something horrible to the girl in broad daylight in a high traffic area (because I guarantee that store isn't off to the side tucked away from society like a dope dealer's house in another state would be), then it would happen whether she was outside that store or a grocery store. Criminal behavior and drugs have a link, but the harder drugs or the trafficking of drugs are things people usually commit violent felonies over. I can understand if you don't agree with it being legal, but you seem to have some serious misconceptions about the average pothead vs. a person who is a violent criminal or pedophile who HAPPENS to smoke or consume marijuana. Also a funny note in a lot of states it has been common for the criminal justice system to treat pedophiles BETTER than a college student who may have had less than a gram of pot on them by way of sentencing. Who's more dangerous?

From what I understand smoking pot makes people hungry, especially for sweets. She probably couldn't pick a better spot, I'd say give her 10 points for an excellent job and something worth having on her resume if she plans to go into sales/marketing. Anyone outraged by this is an idiot, she didn't go in the clinic nor had anything to do with it directly, she just took a perfect spot outside to sell some sweets :)

This is genius.

This girl should be given a scholarship in Business Education.

I'm also suprised there's a medical marijuana shop in the open, or that they've allowed the selling of confections not 20 feet away from the shop.

Whoops! You are correct. I had seen this on Facebook where someone mentioned it was Colorado and skimmed this article (since I wanted an actual source rather than say "I heard on Facebook!" when I brought it here). I saw Colorado in there and went with it.

I have adjusted the OP accordingly. Thank you for the catch Internet Citizen!

As someone who once bought a butt-load of girl scout cookies while recovering from surgery (and loopy as hell from vicodin and valium), I applaud these scouts for knowing their audience and making it a win-win for all parties involved.

It's no different from setting up around a bar and hoping that drunk guys walking by would have a moment of kindness. So long as there is an adult watching over the kids, by all means, go for it. Setting up around an area meant for adults won't be telling the kids "Hey! Go ahead and break the law! Go ahead and abuse a privilege!" anymore than seeing a drunk character in old Disney or Looney Toons films did (which is, it didn't).

So long as the parents are intelligent and educate their kids properly, there ought to be zero issues. In fact, these scouts will probably grow up far better, with proper education, than an absolute anti-drug fanatic.
