I've never dated anyone who already played games, but eventually they all started to enjoy it. In one case, she has now logged more hours playing Virtua Fighter than I have!

Firstly... The issue barging around that girls don't like when their boyfriends play games... That is completely false. Girls don't like when they go over to their boyfriend's house and he sits there doing an activity completely unrelated to her. An example: My ex boyfriend was not a nerd (lamely, possibly part of the reason we broke up) or a gamer (worse again!) but he sort of knew how to use his laptop (which was a Mac, ugh just... Why? But another story). Anyway, I'd drive an hour to his house, he'd take out his Mac, google Oasis (the blandest favourite band to have), look at every hit on the first page, then regoogle it and see if anything had changed. For at least an hour. While I was sitting there.

So you see, the gaming is irrelevant. It's the really rude ignoring-your-girlfriend bit that we don't like.

Secondly, those talking about their girlfriends who "like to watch" them play games. Eh... Unless she's a gamer with a blatant active interest (i.e. she plays in her own time) then you have a pretty sweet pushover deal. She does not like to watch you play games. She's just putting up with it to spend time with you.

My girlfriend is occasionally into gaming.

She has a Wii and a DSi but they hardly get used although she does play games on her G1.

Over the years I have bought her several games for the 360- Wall-e, Banjo Kazooie n the like but they go unused after a week. However she is really into Lips, Singstar n Rock Band.

The best quality she has regarding games is when I am playing she will spot stuff I miss this was really useful playing RE5 & FO3.

Hmm well ive never dated a gamer girl, so ive made it a point never to sit around playing games while they were at my house. Im usually out n about with them. I can understand the "cutting into our time" mentality. God knows if i went over to her house and she spent it starring in the mirror the whole time id be bothered.
This pretty much. It would be fantastic if my girlfreind didn't mind, or indeed enjoyed my gaming, as in the OP, but I'd rather not risk it, and I'd prefer to meet on even ground, where we both ave equal interest

I've been dating a girl for little less than a year, who doesn't mind my excessive gaming. She asks about what bosses I killed today, gets excited when I tell her I got a dog in FO3, and loves that I like the artistic side of games not just the "how many noobs I can pwn," which is what her previous boyfriends were like. She doesn't game at all beyond mariokart. She let me play FO3 with my arms wrapped around her; she likes watching me play Dead Space because "it's like a horror movie;" and she laughs when I headshot people.

This is mind-boggling to me because my prior girlfriends got all up in arms that my gaming cut into "our time" even though I made it abundantly clear that I know my priorities.

Guys, do you have any stories like this? Girlfriends (or hopefully ex's) who hate the fact that you spend some time away from them to escape?

Girls, why do other girls hate the fact that guys like the game? Or on the rare occasion, did you have a boyfriend that hated the fact you gamed?

Let's hear it
I would say you're the luckiest man on earth. Congratz dude :)

You have any pointers for us gamer girls then? I have been looking for a gamer guy but often just find Anime guys when I go to Waldenbooks, Borders, or Barnes & Nobles and when I go to other places the creepy guys always seem to be there instead looking at Hentai >.<
That's a tough one. Looking in book stores usually won't get you very far, but if you look for possibly a gaming club or something that meets on a weekly basis you'll have more luck. I'm not too sure where to go looking for one other than a college campus.

Exactly.

And if I'm with a girl (in general, don't really do GF's (boring and I'm pretty shallow) ) the last thing I'm thinking about is games.

Unless they're ugly.

But if you're living with her then I suppose it's different and that's quite cool - I'd hate to have the fuck nagged out of me for doing my hobby, whatever it is (within the realms of normality), especially when she'd expect to be able to do whatever hers would be.

It could be because we gamer guys like to stay inside and play video games.
That is indeed the problem, both sides. I don't go out much and I don't have any gaming friends. And maybe its because I don't fit snuggly in the gamer sterotype. So I think if I ever do find someone, it would be purely by accident.
I don't look for a girlfriend. Gave up during high school, realized my games and education were far more important.
I know how it is ,I had a girlfriend who didnt play video games alot, she actually got me away from playing them for about 3 months now while im in high school. And just recently we broke up and when that happened, the first thing I did was start playing Halo 3 again on XBox live. I actually look for a girl gamer, you know someone who likes what you like. But its been hard for me though. Not to many girl gamers out there but if I do find one I wouldn't always spend time playing video games with her, I would make time for me and her to just spend some time together.

Anyways you should always be able to make time to go out somewhere with your girlfriend like i used too.

My girlfriend loves to play Burnout : Paradise City and Guitar Hero, and used to play WoW, so she's cool with me being a gamer

...Because they're attention-seeking beaches? :p I really don't know, since gaming is something that I look for in a partner. I guess they see it as something as a time-waster, and want their boyfriends to be more social.

And I've never dated a guy who doesn't game at least moderately, and probably never will. It's a really attractive feature for me, someone who I can talk to about upcoming games who will be as excited about it as I am. And I like a guy who's quiet and a bit anti-social, and non-gamers or jocks often seem to be more of the party type.

Anyway, you're girlfriend sounds like an awesome person. I could befriend her. :p

Lies; girls just need to be more outgoing/assertive. One girl I know desperately wants a relationship but can't get into one. Why might you ask? Because shes very pretty but refuses to ask a guy out, she insists that only guys should ask girls out and because of her traditionalist ways she will continue to yearn for a boy friend.
Well....what are you going tonight? ;)

To be honest I'm a bit like that but I'm not as tight as I was. I get pretty nervous around meeting new people. They don't call me Blushy McRedface for nothing. I'm yet to find someone that I find comfortable asking out. I couldn't possible ask someone out as soon as I meet them.
Tonight, like every night since school started back I will be drawing for about 4-5 hours. Awww yeah architecture studio!

Sometimes meeting new people can be nerve racking, but if it seems like someone worthwhile it helps to just be a bit assertive. For example; I was interesting in dating this one girl, I was kind of unsure about it. I hadn't known her very long or anything but it seemed like a good idea. However, another girl I had been introduced to and like a bit had taken quite the liking to me and she made a strenuous effort to be very flirtatious and even went in for the first kiss before me. Because of that I ended up dating girl #2. (Though in retrospect she was a poor decision, but that's because I'm bitter :D )

That's funny, I plan on doing that next year when I'm old enough (have to be 18 to sell M-rated games, right?)

I'm going to put on my resume that I'm female. It'll likely get me the job.

The only thing I miss about my previous GF was how cool at gaming she was, L4D, Team fortress 2 and Sims 3 were great times, even if I did murder all her sims. Though then I weight it up against the fact she was a total ***** and it all works out.
