Being a gamer, as most girls on this thread will be, I don't mind how often my boyfriend games. I know what it's like to get sucked in or addicted.

What does irritate me is "I can't hear you I'm gaming" syndrome. If you're fighting a boss or in the middle of a bullet clusterfuck then fair enough. If I can SEE you're just knocking off some low level NPCs or traversing the map, I don't understand why "What d'you want for dinner?" or "Do you work tommorrow?" should be met with stony silence.

Is this just a guy thing? I'm able to carry on a conversation while gaming (except when fighting a boss or whatever), but I thought all that guys not being able to multi-task stuff was just a stereotype. ) o_O

The only non-gamer I've dated was a girl who still had a mild interest in the medium. I introduced her to the occasional game and proceeded to kick her arse at Jetset Radio Future. Those were the days.

In part it comes from not understanding, or not wanting to understand the medium ones partner is engaged in. In part it's the jealousy which breeds from that lack of understanding. It can be a terrible gap to bridge but some people make it work. Communication is key to holding such relationships together as it is for all relationships.

I'm always ensaddened (whoo, I just made up a word, and it works with the rules! yay!) when I'm flirting with a girl, and call her a dork, and then she gets offended or upset, and demands to know what it was that caused this dork trait to appear. So few understand that it's not even in the same continent as a bad thing--it's one of the best things, even a prerequisite, even.
Yeah, girls can be weird like that. None of the guys I've called a dork/nerd/geek have ever been insulted, but I've known girls who are easily insulted or even horrified by receiving such titles, even if it's a joke. Though to be fair, I also know quite a few girls who take it as a compliment.

My last girlfriend was a casual gamer and always beat me at SSBB on Wii and she played Fat Princess every so often. She was way too clingy though, Didnt let me do anything and shouted at me because I wouldnt ignore my parents. Bit stupid.

Im still waiting to try find a gamer girl.

Wow, I just created an account to express my appreciation for the refreshingly straight and insightful answers. Ayrav, your comment regarding sacrifice and understanding as being the basis for a great relationship is truly one of the best perspectives one can have. I wish you all the best in your current and future relationships, and I greatly appreciate the original poster for being as forthcoming as he was.

my wife isn?t a gamer but she loves the arcade, she drags me in every time we walk by one, she can kick my ass at tekken or street fighter but gets motion sick while playing games like Cod4 - so its quite strange really.

She doesn?t play many PC games aside from stuff on face book and other games like dawn of discovery. And she doesn?t mind me playing games, she sometimes likes to watch. But a lot of the time she will go into a silent mood and just sit on my lap till I go and do something with her.

My girl is a currently studying games design. I have recently gotten her hooked on FPS Games and she is quite fond of the RPG genre. I am currently working on getting her into RTS games :p But yeah, we have awesome fun playing, especially Co-op based games. Generally we like to spectate as well. Gamer girls are awesome.

I don't have a girlfriend yet D: I'm so lonely

But when I do gaming should be something we both enjoy or else it just won't work.

I'm a gamer girl and I took the time to try and actually play any of the games they liked with them when I could and when I couldn't play with them I would watch, ask questions, help solve puzzles and basically try to interact as much as possible although I know many girls mostly hate video games or the fact their boyfriends play I can understand for some girls who's boyfriends spend a freakishly long amount of time playing and then expect them to sexually please them while STILL playing the game. Honestly as long as it isn't taken to an extreme there is always a way to keep both happy. Finding a gamer girl (Although there don't seem to be many I have noticed since I recently went to a GameStop and was rather surprised by seeing the first female I had ever seen working there.) is probably your best bet and most girls will take it as cutting into your time together if they have no interest in the game or you can't find a way to get them interested as well. I did have one boyfriend who hated the fact that I was a gamer and that but I got over that quickly and he didn't even last the day. (If you can even call that a boyfriend) If you have a girlfriend now who is happy to get involved in your gaming be VERY HAPPY a lot of guys really wish they could find that sort of thing but hardly do.
I love you =]

My boyfriend got me into games i had a mild interrest before we went out. I don't mind him playing games i'll sit there watching him and vice versa or play together on co-op games. Also i like to blow things up which he says is cute, the only annoying thing is when i'm doing a game he has completed he keeps complaining about what i'm doing. He drags me into gamestations but its normally me that comes out buying a game hehe, i love my boyfriend he is fantastic. The same can be said for our friend who plays games in the 98% of his free time. 1% is for sleeping. His girlfriend will just sit there watching him and doesn't moan at him for playing.
Now for the clingy girlfriend, another friend of mine hates her boyfriend playing games. Even if he isn't with her and he is playing whilst on facebook she'll shout at him to stop playing at talk to her. I'm amazed their relationship is still going.

My ex hated when I got better than him at anything from gaming to driving a stick shift. It was pretty funny. The fact that I focus so much on a game when I'm playing it that I find it easy to ignore people didn't help the relationship either.

My current boyfriend and I game together whenever we find something we both like, otherwise it's all about playing when the other one isn't on the system you want to use. The first things we set up when we moved into our apartment were the TV and game systems in the living room.

The girls I know who get mad when their boyfriend is playing are mostly non-gamers, or they don't see the appeal, or they don't like the fact that his attention is focused so entirely on something that isn't them. But then, they're mostly self centered twats.

Well I've never had one (a girlfriend that is) Mind you I had a really good friend growing up called Holly (she still lives a house or two away from me, we're still pretty good...friends that is) together we'd spend the whole weekend over at each others house and we use to play lots of games, especially fusion frenzy which is one of my old favourites. In fact She had an older sister who was also good friends with my sister so yeah we'd all hang out together, often playing all together. Mind you this girlfriend you have now sounds like quite a special lady, that ex of yours sounds like a clingy *****.

I love these 'gaming together' stories, gives me hope! ;_;

Wasn't there an issue quite a while back that covered this? Seem to remember a good article about it. If anyone can remember which issue it was please let me know, I wouldn't mind reading it again.

I've never had a 'proper' gamer girlfriend but a few that have been gamer-friendly and didn't mind the time I spent or saw it as immature etc. I have fond memories of playing the first Black & White with an ex many years ago but she would hate it if I suggested playing Day of Defeat or Diablo 2 >_<
With a more recent gf it was CoD4 and Rock Band/Guitar Hero which we played together pretty much most nights and I enjoyed while it lasted.

My girlfriend has played games with me at parties and stuff and once or twice together but its not a big part of our relationship. Doesn't bother her that I do play games but then again I'm not an addicted gamer or anything and I put her before games 10 days a week.
