Mine isn't a gamer beyond the occasional Facebook minigame, but for the most part she doesn't mind me playing while she's around (as long as I don't do it too much) and might even come over to watch occasionally.

My current gf is a gamer but for some strange reason she is really good at fighting games (I suck massive amounts of ass at them) and racing games, her Sims are constantly dying. What is really great is that she is also awesome at real world Paintball.

I had the best time with her awhile ago she was trying and failing to play the Sims 3 and somehow burnt down two houses and killed 3 sims inside of and hour. it was funny as hell to watch.

None of my girlfriends have been into gaming much, but its never bothered me too much as I don't play all that often anyway. I can see a plus side to having a girlfriend who plays games - in fact there would be a lot of pluses - but it shouldn't be necessity to make a relationship work. If it is/would be a necessity then you would need to ask yourself some serious questions.
I think it's more of a "bonus" thing, depending on how important gaming is to someone off course... But it really shouldn't be a "deal breaker" imo. But then again, it really shouldn't come down to friction between the couple either.

Personally I find it adorable that my gf doesn't know games that well, but I do like to play some with her just for giggles and to talk about with.

One of my EXes got me unstuck on Metroid Prime 1, back in 02. I can never fully repay her for that, what a game.

Since, I've had one who was unnaturally good at Mario Kart (Double Dash), and a few who've been indifferent.

Me and my girlfriend play WoW together. We also occasionally play Guitar Hero together but I usually beat her. It's always a close call though.

Anyway, my girlfriend has one lvl 80 and one almost lvl 80 character. We do a lot of dungeons together. I tank, she heals, great team we are, yes.

I wonder if any girls have boyfriends who don't game...

Anyway, I'm better at games than my boyfriend.
Playing Prototype today, got a few trophies in half the time he did.

I just let my girl mess about on the sims while I'm busy saving the universe again.
Hehehe this is exactly me :D

I love that my GF will happily listen to me yap on about why the residents of Andale are trying to chop me up and I have to orphan thier kids... or why Gordon and Alyx won't ever actually get it on...

Then again I happily listen to her talking about the pretty new shoes she got lol

While I never had a gaming GF, I am sure I side with most guys thinking it would be fucking awesome to have one.

Yeah, my last girlfriend really hadn't a clue about games and gaming etc., but at the same time we made it work and had a lot of fun talking about it - it was a jovial topic for us - and a great conversation starter.

I agree inre: the bonus issue. If you have a girlfriend that likes to play games then it is something to be very happy about as you would always have something to talk about, but again it shouldn't be something that is needed to make a relationship.

I actually got my girlfriend interested in gaming. I gamed so much she didn't understand how I could run late at times, with the excuse of 'Sorry, I lost track of time'. She used to get mad at me, until she picked up a controller one day. 8 hours later, she asked what time it was, was shocked to learn that she'd been having fun for longer than she'd realized, and after a quick break, wanted to keep playing. After that, a lot of our free time became game time, both co-op and trade offs for single player. I actually got her so hooked that she bought a wii. And while she still hasn't quite moved into the core gamer category, she has fully become more than a casual gamer. I think one of the funnest decisions I've ever had to face was when she turned to me at one point, and asked me if we could do one more level or screw around a bit. Haha I felt proud that I'd converted her into such a gamer.

Its not as good as you think it would be :(
How so?
Well It may have just been the girl I dated but it just got really anoying all she wanted to do was game together and then she turned out to be a complete *****...I personaly would rather have a GF that would like to go out or watch a movie or something. My friend also had a gaming GF which ended badly because she would get so mad if he beat her in games and such...kinda like she expected him to let her win...I dont know depends on the person I guess.

My wife and I game together daily. Whether it's a few rounds on TF2 or a full on Naxx raid in WoW. Its good to be married to someone who games, gives us quality time together, without really being together.

I'm a gaming girlfriend and every time I tried to date someone that didn't play games it wasn't good. Especially because they were condescending and bitchy about it. My current SO is a gamer too and has gotten me to play new genres I wouldn't touch before (namely FPS). I wouldn't want to date someone that's obsessed or addicted to gaming just like I wouldn't want to date someone that was obsessed or addicted to anything.

I am a gaming girlfriend and my boyfriend seems to love that. Hell, it's the basis of our whole relationship! In the early days, we'd play Halo together and as it's progressed we both acquired 360s and now we set them up in the same room and play Saints Row 2 on co-op as well as GOW and L4D.

My ex wasn't into games though and now that I'm so heavily into it, I just can't imagine being with someone who doesn't like games. It goes both ways: although men are more likely to be gamers, it can be a pain in the butt if your partner doesn't game and you do, whether you're male or female, because they're likely to just see it as a waste of time.
Sounds like your boyfriend is a lucky fellow.
