Girls are now becoming more prominent in games, not just "family friendly" games (like animal crossing, mario, zelda and I'm not saying that these games are bad) but more "hard core" games (like C.o.D, Gears of War, etc)so what do you guys think? Do you think that girls are becoming more prominent in "hard core" games? Do you think that they should stick to more family friendly games? There's a million questions in this topic, but that's besides the point.

EDIT: So I'm getting ripped apart over one particular question. So to elaborate I simply meant that there is a certain stereotype that girls are only good at family oriented games. I have been many a time bitched out for being a girl playing on C.o.D, like just the idea of a girl play a game like that is infuriating to people, so I wanted to see how many people here fall into that category, and it makes me happy that you guys are getting ticked off at that question.

Uhm... Yes, there are more gamers in general than there used to be 15 years ago, so there are also more female gamers... regardless of genre... I guess?

I can't even wrap my head around this question, I'm sure you meant to write something different, so please elaborate.

Why yes, of course. Girls shouldn't be allowed to play our manly hardcore games. I mean, do they think they're equal or something?

/sarcasm

I really can't believe someone would seriously ask that question.

Like should they stick to less violent games, opposed to more male dominated games? It's a stupid stereotype really.

Um... well considering all the gender equality we seem to be having nowadays. I think Girls should play whatever games they want. And if a girl wants to play a hardcore game, why does my opinion even matter?

I think what people are getting at here it "Why would you even ask this question?"

PLus we've had about 20 of these topics in the last 6 months

Maybe they should do what they want to do?

They've been around for a while mate. And probably years to come. So what? Males and females just become Gamers in the gaming world. Loosing all gender title.

I'm a girl that plays games. I don't see why I shouldn't be allowed to play the same games that guys do, just because of a severely outdated stereotype.

Don't mind me, I'll just be over here, in the corner, with my ovaries, playing cooking mama.

No.

What I think is: Does it really matter?
So what if we are playing games? There are no rules or laws against it, and anyone who says there is can stuff it up their ass.
Anyone can play whatever games they want, so long as they are old enough to do so. Keeping people out of a genre of games just because of their sex is stupidity.
I'm currently playing New Vegas. Should I be playing Sims 3 instead? If I want to. Doesn't matter if anyone says I should because an FPS is a "Manly, male dominated game, Oorah!"
So answers, in order: More prominent: Doesn't matter, anyone can play any video game regardless of sex. Stick to more family friendly games: Answered in the previous question, to a degree. Anyone can play what they want. Limiting because of sex is stupid.
Oh, that was it. Only two questions.

How many times do we get this topic a week? Maybe 3 or 4? Not faulting you, you're allowed to write a new thread but it's been done to death. Yes Girl's who play Video Games aren't an anomaly. It's nothing new, and they are the exact same as guys

girls play games who cares how is it any different from anyone else. Some guys just dont like the thought that a girl is killing/beating them in a game so they just say shit like go back to the kitchen ect.

My intention wasn't to insult or post something that has been posted a million times over. Myself being a girl gamer I find myself being treated differently when I play online. I don't know...I just find it odd and was curious weather or not people feel the same way or I'm just getting stuck with a bunch of assholes when I play online.

There have always been girl gamers. There always will be girl gamers. There will always be hardcore girl gamers.

And I don't believe in "Girl" vs. "Boy" games which usually comes down to "Casual" vs "Hardcore" which usually comes down to "OMG, I can't believe a girl beat me!" which leads to "There are no girl gamers, just guys who pretend." which makes all girl gamers (and those who love us) do a slow burn.

And yet, this conversation ALWAYS comes up. Can we just accept that not everyone who games is a stereotype? That some of us have graduated from both high school and college? That some of us have careers and relationships and lives outside games? And that some of us have two X chromosomes?

I don't think there is a need to feel insulted.. More or less be confused on who would really even ask such a question. To me it feels like he was trying to get a big debate to erupt.

OT: Girls have been playing games for a long time now, it's just something you never really saw. I know many girls who out rank males and I know I personally never concern myself with a players gender; Only their skill level and maturity.
