I had noticed(!) Although it doesn't bother me in the slightest, I just find it quite amusing, when I get stunned silences, then a "you're really a girl"
I admit it is amusing when someone in the party says that. I tend to shrug it off myself since for me, guy or girl unless it is a team game I'm still killing you.
Good it doesn't bother you, I have come across girls that take offense to it... which is strange.

I had a run-in with a certain pre-pubescent twerp last night on TF2 (I don't seem to have much luck with the people I play against, to be honest...) who, after I'd killed him a few times, decided to inform me if I wanted to keep on 'my' game (as he put it) I'd have to be a medic, and/or promise not to kill him. ... o.0 Then booted me when I burst out laughing.
Never played TF2 myself, haven't heard much on it to be honest but ugh I have had my run ins with the ever so loved pre-pubescent twerps. Probably the most amusing was back in Halo 2 when I was going rather well until a kid killed him, screaming into the mic how much I suck while teabagging me. In his glee he neglected to notice just as I died, I had stuck him. That last second "NO FUCKINGWA...." boom was hilarious. He proceeded to call me a cheater all game and was determined to kill me and only me all game. I had something like a 23-5 game thanks to that kid.

See... that to me was fairly natural character development, given that my opinion of Rikku in FFX was that she was a silly little airhead forced to deal with big girl's problems. Didn't bother me much that she then reverted back to form, post-FFX. I was more annoyed that they turned Yuna into a pious, self important ...dare I say it, almost bunny-boiler-ish little madam, who couldn't survive without Tidus.
Personally while she was silly and somewhat random in FFX. She had her maturing moments as the game progressed. I found her overall character there to be quite endearing and entertaining, additionally she is only fifteen in FFX. With FFX-2 she just went into "dumb blonde" mode and almost her entire persona from FFX was ignored.
Yuna, she had a nice change in the sense she was not depressed throughout the entire game however I'll give you she was somewhat Tidus-happy, although if you opt not to revive Tidus at the end of the game she has quite a developing scene stating she was finally able to move on. Overall I just discredit FFX-2, even if it was fun at times because the ending of FFX was perfect. Half the reason you have the good ending for FFX-2 is because people cried over FFX's.

Oh, undoubtedly. Unfortunately, it's not an easy situation to remedy. It's not like you can force girls who might not be all that interested in games, to start playing, and/or be an active member of a gaming community.
Indeed, although on a positive note many more are at least attempting to start gaming than in the past.
