..., I would totally prefer to live in ... Spain ...
No you wouldnt. Spain has terrible governments (EDIT: I shouldnt say terrible governments) a terrible track record for stability and usually a total change is necessary for something when new powers come in. Plus tehy're looking to be the next greece (which if you havent been keeping up on international news, is a rather shitty place to be and pulling down the entire EU [or at least was, but I dont think tehy stabalized]).

OT:

I rather like our government. Not the way its run, but the way its structured. its a live document, and capable of being changed. Its the reason that black people can now be seen as people rather then objects, and something that in other countries would require a massive change in government and possibly a revolt.

well, the US made the gatling gun, which is an awesome invention. and theres a lot in Pittsburgh alone I can be proud of (being from Pittsburgh).

Theres alot to be glad of for the US, but theres also alot to dislike. I think the hate it gets is rather unfair (even looking at outside the view of an American citizen), but world powers have always been hated by non world powers. It may over step its boundaries from time to time, but no more so then most of the countries that like to criticize it.

I'm american and love everything about our history, I am proud to be from Massachusetts as well, I'm not from any famous town or city, but paul revere stayed a night in my town and Old Iron Side was partially built in my town as well.
Really, you love /everything/ about your history. You approve off every act your nation has ever taken?

Statements like that need to be made extremely carefully..

I'm British, I'm extremely proud of my nation, but I do not love everything about our history.. we've done some appalling things over the years.

To love one's country is to accept its accurate history, warts and all, but to want to make it better than its darkest points.
Thank you, yes I know we have our flaws and we were flawed in the past. I mean we all have our flaws so why can't our nation? and I'm a history buff myself.

We were once lead by a fucking Super Hero

That pic is of course fictional: Teddy only needed his bare hands.

In all seriousness though, I love the freedom of speech and, expression. We need a lot of work though...

Watch "Dancing With Wolves" and it'll kill any and all patriotism you might ever have felt for that country considering what it's built upon.

I wouldn't say that EVERYTHING we did we should be proud of. Like the Civil War and Slavery, I wouldn't be too celebratory about either.
refer to the comment before you. you posted right after I did I'm sorry you didn't get to see that before you commented

I don't know I think Europe has benefited the world the most so far as technological advances are concerned. Cars were german/ the first was made by a french guy, before USA existed, the telephone was invented by a Scots man. Penicillin was invented by a scots man. T.V was invented by an American so you win that one.

Too bad that documentary ignored quite a bit of historical details... Not that it was a bad series or anything; It had some nice production value.

Besides the whole bipartisan system that limits progress, I'd say they have done pretty well...

EDIT: Perhaps they should pay back the credit they owe first... :D

Wait... Take pride in our selves for being subjects of a corrupt government elected by you people( i didn't vote, y'all made this mess y'all clean it up) that is actively working to take as much of our money as it can to give to the rich that enabled their corruption; as they ignore the constitution multiple times, lie to our faces, and do so with the medias aid. We live in a country that ignores the rules it was founded on based on the argument "Nu uh we are totally following the rules" and apparently nothing we can do changes it because no one informs themselves, they are lied to at every turn, and the system we have to alert us of danger is broken. Shit looks pretty dark from here and only gets darker as we go deeper. It is nothing worth taking pride in to be a citizen of the US.

Since what went from grimdark Monday has turned into a solid week of grimdark fuck all of darkness i will say this. I am proud that our politicians can refute any argument that X bill is unconstitutional simply by saying "No it isn't".

Wow. I think i am going to get a drink and lay down. It took a lot of work to be that cynical.
That's the problem though. "I'm not going to vote/I didn't vote, so whatever happens/is happening is totally not my fault."

You don't like the current set of people in office? Vote against them. If enough people agree, then they'll have to leave the office. Amazing how that works.

Television itself was inventedby John Logie-Baird, Scotsman. It was however a young American who invented the electronic television we use today.

The only thing good ever to come out of the US is a couple of games, that's it, if it wasn't for gaming I wouldn't care if the US disappeared over night. Oh and of course the movies too.

However, the thing I find most funny about the US is that they came there about 200-300 years ago, killed allmost all the natives, and then have the balls to hate foreigners who actually most often than not adds something positive to the country.

It only took America 250 years to become the world power that it is today. Thats pretty remarkable if you ask me.
I would almost say it only took four years, 1941-1945.
Not quite, what made America so powerful was it's resources and industry. This allowed the great mobilization for World War 2.

In that case you lose that one America. You get the light bulb instead although the inventor of the LB is debatable. Scotland are whooping your as America.

And I do love our history, all of it. I don't necessarily agree with it, but you have to remember that both the good and the bad things about are what built America. I'm sure England's not too proud of the whole India deal before Gandhi, or that Spain is proud of the Inquisition, or Germany about the Nazis. I could go on forever, but the point is that you shouldn't let what different people did in a different time completely make you lose faith in your country. What matters is that we managed to rise above those bad times to be something greater.

Captcha: "needs India" lawl.

You cannot compare what America did to the Indians(which I admit was quite less than savory) to how countries such as Spain treated them. Besides, more natives were killed by European disease than by American steel.

you could always write in a vote then, as long as they're eligible.

besides, as long as youre a US citizen, it still is your fault, cause your taxes will go to whatever higher powers want to use them for them. so youre still making the mess, and you're still going to help (or hinder) cleaning it up.
