I just watched a video an got inspired to try it here. It is pretty simple:

Take some lesson you learned the hard way in life, write it down and share with the rest of us. Maybe we all don't have to make the same mistakes!

Here's a starter:

Most people don't know as much as they seem to do. That includes you

Treating people like they deserve to be treated is being the bigger man. Constantly letting people get away with making you miserable isn't. Violence is like a knife. It is neither good or bad until you decide how to use it.

Dear past me.

Don't worry, you're even more awesome than you are then.

Also, don't finish Mass Effect 3.

You'll thank me later.

Lots of love.

Future you.

Don't eat sweets every day, unless you *want* to have two root canals and several fillings by the time you're 20 years old.

Don't stay with someone for six months after he's made it clear he's not enjoying the relationship but just doesn't want to be alone.

And then when you sleep with someone soon after you eventually break up, keep it quiet if you don't want to end up being seen as the bad guy.

Don't go out with someone who's in love with someone else, you think they'd get over them when they have someone who actually wants to be with them but love doesn't really work that way.

Don't have sex with someone when you don't want to. No, I don't care that you're not a virgin anymore, that doesn't lessen your right to say no.

... I probably have some more if I think about it a bit...

Everyone is discriminatory to some extent.

Life is hard and unfair.

Humans can be nastier than you give them credit for.

Many popular inspirational phrases like ?You can do anything if you put your mind to it? and ?Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me? are bullshit and can often do more harm than good.

Your teenage years aren?t the best years of your life. Your childhood years before puberty are.

Love is a more complicated and false concept (as in, the whole ?I?m in love with you ?cos you?re so pretty and kind and blah blah blah?) than people make it out to be in the movies.

Overthinking nonsensical subjects like ?the meaning of life? and ?the origin of the universe? that you?ll probably never get an answer for just drives people fucking batty and it?s better to not think about it, unless you?re forced to in an exam or something.

My parents gave me the best advice when I was little:

Everything in moderation.
There is no fate but what you make.

For something I'd tell my younger self, don't wait for an opportunity, make one.

-Don't date people who put you down to make themselves feel better.
-Don't ever let people tell you what you can and can't wear/do.
-Screw stereotypes, you can wear dresses and play games.

- Always carry more than one Rubber.

- Don't mix your drinks, pick something and stick with it. You're in for a world of hurt if you don't.

- Alcohol and stairs.. not good bedfellows.

- Objectivity does not exist in art, so don't bother looking for it.

- Don't try to think to hard with either of your heads, just react to the ever turbulent ride that is life as it ebbs and flows.

- Don't watch "2 Girls 1 Cup".. no matter how convincing your mates argument is.

- Education is important.. but people will respect your hard work more than your slip of paper. So don't shy away from work that you might consider 'beneath you'.

For the love of god trim your big toe nail straight not across and don't trim too much!!!

Ingrowing toenails is a nightmare to have!!!

Also-
No matter how much hardships you had to endure today, give it alot of times and it will be a thing in the past.

That's pretty much to those who are having a hard time in high school.

The popular people in high school end up the most pathetic people once the real world comes along. Don't worry about them disliking you - you end up awesome and happy. Also, the pimples go away and all through your twenties you'll grow into your looks and end up breathtaking. So don't worry.

Don't waste your time on a Bachelor of Arts - it's fucking useless. Work hard at the jobs you have, but don't take crap from your bosses - there are always better jobs out there.

And do like I did and take the job at the school after you finish Library School, even if it is hard. Your second year there, the kids will make it all worth it. Even when they screw you over at the end of the year leaving you unemployed for 6 months and leaving those kids is one of the most heartbreaking things you'll ever do... do it. It's worth it.

Also, warn your mom to stay away from that one surgeon.... because he will cripple her for life and leave her in extreme pain forever. Actually, try and find him and break his fingers (or more)... because he will do this to other people and get away with it because Canada's medical system is shit and you can't sue.

Dear past me,

Don't buy Alone in the Dark. Don't give up your Optimus Prime. Just ask her out, I'm fairly sure she's into you. Look both ways at a 4-way intersection. Every. Single. One. Also, punch your little brother, he deserves it.

Sincerely,
Future you.
