So I've been thinking about getting the MGS HD collection. I've only played 2 and 4. 4 I liked once and 2 I didn't (though for 2 I stopped right after the first chapter). Everybody says Snake Eater is great and that Peace Walker is good too. But I'm still having trouble coming to a decision. Like I said, I didn't like 2, mostly due to the stupid fixed camera, which I know they didn't bother updating. I'm willing to give the game a second chance though. Plus I'm still not sold on HD Remakes just yet. (And this is a small thing but I have absolutely no interest in playing the first few Metal Gear games that come with the collection and for some reason I see that as a mark against getting the collection). On the plus side, after Amazon credit the collection would only cost me ten bucks. Wouldn't think that would be a hard decision to make but I'm a frugal man.

So give me a few good reasons why I should get it. Is it worth the money? Does the gameplay mostly hold up? If i liked 4 will I like SE and PW? Is PW's online any good? Will these games change my life?

PS. Two questions:

1. Does the collection come with the VR missions?

2. I heard that Peace Walker has almost 100 side quests and thus almost 100 hours worth of gameplay. Any truth to this?

1. yep, the ones from MGS 2
2. it has a lot of missions but they don't each last 1 hour it took me around 60 to do everything in the game on the PSP, dunno if they've changed anything for the HD collection. Still it has MGO and that is some of the best online shooter modes you'll ever see in any game

If you've only played 2 and 4, get it so you can replay 2 and play 3. Three is the best of the series. Shit that was a good game.

It's MGS, it's HD, and it comes with MGS 3 which is one of the best games ever made, in HD! You get 3 games for the price of less than one. Why wouldn't you want to get it?

10 bucks for 3 amazing games? You'd be mad not to! Snake Eater is probably the best game in the series, in my opinion and Peace Walker - this is my first time through with it - is quite a bit of fun as well. Basically, get it!

Alright, I'm convinced. Ordering it now.

What's PC's multiplayer like? Is it anything like 4's? Cause I liked MGO a lot and I would have liked it more if the players weren't all elitist assholes.

It does contain The VR Missions from 2, It also contains Snake tails (where you play as Snake on the big shell) which to my knowledge was a Xbox exclusive mode.

The third one doesn't include the online portion, or the Ape Escape mode for that matter, but that might be due to licensing. It does however, include the awesome original MSX versions of both Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2 Solid Snake. Both are extremely interesting if you want to know the origins of the series, they are also great games in their own right.

Peace walker is fully online, and you can also transfer data via the PSP version too.

All of the games also run at a solid 60 FPS, so a lot of love has been put in to this collection, it is a must buy, even if you own them, or have played them previously.

The only complaint I have with it, is that they changed the video up a bit for the Mgs 3 theme, so it doesn't properly gel with the music right, but it's a minor complaint.

I'm going to say get it because this is more than likely the best Metal Gear will be unless they remake the whole thing in a deacde for the PS5 or something. Peace Walker is fully online and is deeper than I first thought, and you are getting a crisper, better sounding and flowing edition of MGS2: Substance and MGS3: Subsistance. (Thats Snake Tales and VR Missions too)

There are a few annoyances:
MGS2 does not have the Skateboarding Mode.
MGS3 does not have the Secret Theatre, Snake vs Monkey or Duel Mode.

Metal Gear Solid 3 alone is worth the price.

Seriously.

It aged VERY well graphically (in terms of Gameplay it takes time to get used too, but can't have everything i guess), it has the most "balanced out" (between clever/intelligent and cheesy/weird) story of the MGS Series that is both fun, funny and moving, it has GREAT Gameplay (and actually let's you play for quite a bit between cutscenes) that is unique even today and since we are already at comparisons with today: There are hardly any games now and in the past that show so much love and passion for the Project than the MGS Series.
Even MGS2 (wich in my retroactive opinion actually kinda sucks) is filled with lots of easter eggs, detail, possiblilites and things that you can easily miss even when playing the game five times.

Some of the best Bossfights of all time and any genre do help, too.

Okay here i go:
+3 great games for a lower price than ONE new release would have.
+each game cleaned and scrubbed to 720p resolution
+high replayability on each game(especially PW) each game has a big bunch of quite fun unlockables
+PW has a well built coop mode(up to 4 players)
(+Nostalgia)
+MGS2 is the expanded version with the VR missions,so if youre up for some challenges, this is the mode for you

Well... yeah. I mean sure I'm biased because I thik MGS3 is one of the greatest games of all time... but Pacewalker is fun too and it has good co-op!

Correction, you get 5 games for the price of one! The edition of Snake Eater in the HD collection is Subsistance which comes with the original Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake. Brucey bonus.
