Short answer:
Maybe a change of genre or platform might help. Otherwise you might have just had enough of gaming. Perhaps even "grown out of" it.

Long answer:
I used to feel like that. I switched to solo-only gaming for a while and built a gaming PC (and this was while I was on welfare, though I had no responsibilities other than my phone bill). I also stopped playing the same genre of games (FPSs) and broadened out to things I rarely played (RPGs and Action-Adventures mainly).
This got me back into gaming and I had a lot more fun and was able to tolerate the games that made me hate gaming a bit better. I can now play online with my friends and not get phased by the idiots online, but I can still only play a couple of hours before I get burned out. By myself, regardless of console or PC, I can play for hours and not have enough.
If any type of gaming doesn't satisfy you, you might just have had enough and may need a long break or even just stop altogether.

Thank you for that, you've made my evening.

As to your initial point, if you've gotten sick of a hobby why do you wish to stay with it? Seems to me that you've already decided to stay with gaming (otherwise why the 'plea for help' thread?) and are simply seeking validation. If you still like gaming, then game. If you don't like modern gaming then there's no reason to keep doing it - we outgrow our old hobbies and gain new interests all the time.

Don't really care if some random person wants to bail out on a hobby. A different story if video games were paying the bills for you. Not working in the video game industry, I don't see what the problem is. Example would be like if one of my friends didn't want to go fishing anymore. Can't really see the point of trying to convince someone of something that doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things. Of course I feel like these things are just an excuse to get some attention. "Oh I can't stand skateboarding anymore." "Can you people convince me to give it up," (I am just rolling my eyes.)
Well, I don't know, it seems to me, that we are in a veeery important thread.
Love your avatar, by the way.

Play Journey on PSN; it's one of the most amazing experiences you'll ever have, with a fantastic soundtrack and a beautiful world to explore. Journey is one of those games that proves the medium is more than 'bang bang, kill kill'.

Or at least cut down on competitive multiplayer.

Honestly you need to sit down and write out your pro's and con's to gaming, and then with the con's side figure out if any of those con's are directly related to games themselves, or side-effects of games. Example: trash talking on the mic can easily be taken away by muting voice chat. I play COD and other games like it without a mic, and without the voice features on. Its wonderful. I also do this with TF2. I don't care what people have to say in-game since its generally fire-and-forget trash talk or just plain useless.
Also, play something outside of your "normal" sphere every now and again.
Great example for me was FTL. It reintroduced the "Nintendo Hard" concept to games for me and kind of restored my faith in gaming.
Anyway, it comes down to my first point: Take the con's you find in gaming and figure out which ones you can't deal with, which ones you can and if there's anything in the pro's side that negates the one's you can't. Further that with figuring out if you can remove things completely from the con's by changing up how you do things. IF at the end you still can't find gaming interesting. Take a year off, come back and play again.

play a single player game like mass effect or halo 2 or assassins creed
multiplayer is just a place for dickheads to be dickheads to one another
actually i have never found a single game with a decent community not gmod, tf2, and definately not gta 4 multiplayer
but still try singleplayer games they are much better

What genre do you usually play? You might need to try something different to get you interested again. I like to play a little of everything.

You also seem to really dislike the bad elements of the community. There's plenty of great single player games and if I do multiplayer it's with people in the room even if it means bringing my laptop over. It's also best to turn of voice chat and not read open chat channels too.

Yes, its ironic how I'm using a gaming forum to ask for advice. Deal with it. My head is full of rage and wanting to vent of steam at the time of writing this.

I feel that at this point playing video games is bad for my mental health. I used to like playing games and talking to people about games, but now things have changed. I always have an urge to play games every now and then, but after a short while I feel burnout and no longer want to play. This should be fine, as it is okay to take a break from gaming for a while, and this did happen to me a few times, but this time it really feels like if this time I'll quit for good.

The main problem is with the toxicity among other gamers. I don't play COD because from my personal experience there are alot of people online and off who are the stereotypical gamer: full of rage and hate. I might play the single player of COD 4 sometime if I can get back to gaming, but that is for another day. Every game I play I hear about X being OP and Y being broken. It feels like if discussing about those issues is like talking about religion or politics: we go nowhere and we all end up hating each other. I tried to play Warframe and TF2 thinking that the community would be different and there would be less of what I despise, but I was wrong.

So please, give me a reason not to quit gaming. If you think the time is right for me to quit, say so. Please don't do anything to increase my hatred towards my hobby. I will turn into one of "them" and become an enraged demon (maybe that's exaggeration)
I have been burned out a few times when I play the same game. I just move onto something else.

As for the toxicity, besides MMOs I don't play anything else online unless my friends want too and even with the MMOs I play I do so solo 95% of the time.

Boohoo, its such a big deal to lose interest in gaming... It's just for attention.
Exactly. And I really wish, it would be enough, what I wrote but I'm gonna write a bit more. It reaaally isn't a big deal. Attention? Meh. I'd say, it's just boredom.

Eh, I only posted that because of boredom anyway.
That is exactly my point. We are very, very bored at this moment and we should seek entertainment now. *goes off to the vastness of the internet*

I totally get where you are coming from. But there are still games that I enjoy playing. The closest I usually come to playing online is doing splitscreen Borderlands 2 with a buddy of mine. But other than that I enjoy games like Arkham City, Mass Effect, Metroid, Metal Gear Solid and such. I personally prefer a story driven game not one that goes for high scores. And I adored Thomas was Alone. So if you can find games that you really enjoy playing I think you'll have a lot more fun. And remember, as much as the corporations want you to believe it, not every game has to be massive online multiplayer. There'snpothing wrong with enjoying a single player game. I periodically feel like all my games are boring too but if you branch out from the stereotypical COD style game, I think you might feel a lot better.

I don't really see why it's necessary to "quit" gaming. Gaming isn't a drug, you can partake in it as much or little as you wish to whatever degree you wish. If you aren't enjoying it anymore then just give it a rest, for as long as you want.

Thank us later,OP.

With all seriousness, try new types and genres of games.
Personally, I was completely burnt out of gaming some point around 2009-2010, but then I tried a game of a kind I normally don't play, and that game was non other than Persona 4 in which, since then I've noticed that up till that point I was playing nothing but triple AAA mainstream games, so I decided to try games I normally wouldn't and got into other SMT games as well as my other two favorite franchises Ace Attorney and Ghost Trick.
I took a distant break from triple A games until I was reeled back in by Portal 2 and Dark Souls, I never fully got back into the triple A scene though and I'm usually cynical about them but this experience taught me how ton look for golden gems no matter where they are and it taught me how to choose my games wisely and now I'm more into gaming than I ever was.

What I'm trying to say isn't that Persona 4 is the savior of all gaming or that triple A games are terrible, its that you need to change to spice things up, put some more variety in your gaming catalog, and you may feel the buzz and freshness of gaming again, may not exactly be Persona 4 but some game that brings a new flavor to you and not the feel of stagnation.
Phew, there we go. I think you must have been typing too fast, lucky I caught it for you. :3

In all seriousness though, I stopping playing all FPS games the moment Halo 4 came out. Just could not be arsed with any of them. I was just playing League, UMVC3 and later BlazBlue. However as much as I love BB and I used to love UMVC3 I do NOT recommend the OP to playing them. At least not online.

I wholly recommended playing BB for the story and other single modes alone though. The story is really fucking good (read: involves Hazama, so you have to play it) and you can roflstomp the AI on the lowest difficulty if you have to (no shame in it, Unlimited Hazama is overpowered as FUCK) and there are a variety of other singleplayer modes as well. However do not play Infinite Mars if you want to keep your blood pressure healthy.

Stop reading gaming news sites/forums and stop playing competitive games. And the fun returns. Wow. That was easy.
