Was there a canonically gay character in star wars before Juhani in Kotor? I've always thought she was the first one, but I could be completely wrong on that.
I honestly don't know. Not that they count, anyway - The first two 'official' (Written and directed by the core Star Wars group, not contracted writers payed by the page) gay characters appear in the new Disney EU, a pre-Rebellion Moff (Which, as I recall, is a rather gross, drug using officer, hinted at only being kept in power because she's too incompetent to ever really challenge anything the Emperor does) and a post-Second Death Star rebel (Which I know nothing about. The reviews for the particular series she shows up in are rather poor, as opposed the other books which are fairly well received).

So general question about this Captain Hydra thing....

Does it appear to be a genuine thing? Or is it a "Haha! You THOUGHT I was loyal to Hydra! But I was fooling you the whole time, to learn the location of your secret base! Eat Justice Fist foul knave!" kind of thing?

I mean I get that it's going to go back to normal of course, I just don't know if the plotline has established that he is somehow being manipulated or whatever, or if Steve is simply trying to be cunning for once.
He's loyal to Hydra at the moment, but it's obvious that the Red Skull is involved in some telepathic/reality manipulation/time travel/whatever shenanigans and has changed it so this is the case and it isn't how he truly is.

Oh I know it's not how he "truly" is, or at least, not how he truly is when someone who isn't the current writer is writing him. I just meant, was there any evidence presented in the comics so far, that explained what was going on yet. As in, he clearly had some mind whammy things happen previously, or if it was perhaps, some long infiltration game on his part, to get into Hydra. I mean, all I've seen is that one image of him in the plane with that guy saying "Hail Hydra", that's it. Lots of ways that could play out.

Personally I don't really care, I learned this fact about comics back in the 90's, so it's hardly a new thing. Was just curious what angle they were going for. Apparently, according to some of the above posters, it's likely a mind whammy thing.

We don't know exactly what's going on, but the pieces are there.

At the end of a just finished crossover event, a priest helped Steve regain his youth from a sentient cosmic cube. The priest turned out to be Red Skull in disguise who villainously monologued about how he'd use Captain America. When Captain America next turns up he has memories of a Hydra agent who is prominently connected with the colour red converting him and his mother to Hydra.

Red Skull's telepathic so although we don't know exactly what he did, it's pretty clear it was some combination of his telepathy and the reality altering cosmic cube that he directed Cap to.

If there's anything I've learned on twitter is that there are always 2 sides to a SJWs mouth.
In this case:
- one side wants an almost middle aged character to "suddenly" become gay (because it's 2016 reee)
- the other side keeps spouting that gays are "born that way"
Also, I haven't seen many gays endorsing that. If you look at the hashtag 90% of the post come from the usual far-left twitter lobbists who are mostly bog-standard, vagina-begging, virtue-signalling SJWs and, of course, feminists.

I will never understand this obsession of trying to make everything, brown, female, gay and trans, nor how doing so has ever contributed to anything at all.
It's patronizing at best that they think those people can't make it on their own and need special treatment.

So, are men just not allowed to have best friends be men without people assuming they're gay for each other? I get enough of this brand of nonsense in Anime circles.

Not to mention it rather cheapens Cap's character pretty badly. Not only is Bucky his best friend and brother in all but name and blood, the guy is his one remaining link to his old life and era. But no, he's gotta want to tap dat Bucky ass.

I'm sorry if I'm dumping on people's fun here, but seeing people hide their kinks (yes, kinks. I'm pretty sure this is being pushed mainly by yaoi fangirls and not the homosexual community. The push would be for Cap and TONY if it was) behind "Inclusiveness" kind of gets my goat.

It's the same reason Phasma being an LGBT character in The Force Awakens is something no one would have known by watching the movie had Disney not told us, and why that will continue in the next two numbered Star Wars movies as well.
Poe and Finn or nothing!
You, me, and the actors who played both Poe and Finn are all in agreement.
Poe's actor is. Every time I saw that brought up with Finn's actor he kind of freaks out a little. It's on his face.

Well of course there's a lot of fan fiction about her. xD The actress is tall and stunningly gorgeous, the fiction almost writes itself! xD
Stunningly gorgeous?

Look, she's not ugly by any stretch of the imagination, but she ain't winning no beauty contests.

I could see them doing this in the comics.

Disney wouldn't dream of introducing an openly gay prominent character in the Marvel Cinematic universe (goodbye foreign market)

But they would have no problem making the comic book version gay, the comics are used fooder to appease the "progressive" crowd who don't actually care about the actual product just that changes are being made out there somewhere. You can easily see that the sales figure's for feminist Thor don't don't come anywhere near the amount of support it got even going as far as being talked about by Oprah, pretty sad.

She's not ugly by any stretch, in a medieval setting, in armor, playing a character that is supposed to be anything, but "pretty"? Did you... I don't know... check out what she looks like on a modeling shoot?

'Cause she's a model.

Behold, the miracle of makeup, used to make someone look pretty rather than haggard!

Oh, and she's Phasma.

Thank you for stating my case for me xD

Because yeah, she hits just about all of my "yes please" buttons when it comes to attractiveness. I'm tall, so tall women automatically get a leg up (haha! puns!) on the attractiveness curve. She's got striking eyes, loooooong legs, is funny, and well spoken and intelligent. Yes, definitely my kind of lovely lady.

You know she kind of reminds me of Minnie Driver in some ways, in the face I mean. As well as the "deliciously tall" category as well. xD

I know what you mean. To be fair of course, "Tall, leggy blonde with stunning blue eyes and British accent" hits a LOT of 'yes please' buttons for pretty much everyone, so you're not alone there. Personally, I think she looks like an amazonian version of Rachel Riley.

Brilliant mathematician and dainty beauty, or Shakespeakerean actress giant model?!

So, am I the crazy one here? Granted she looks BETTER in those pictures, but I'm still not seeing the "gorgeous" here. It's certanly not the height or legs. I like tall women, and I like Leggy women, but she is just not doing it for me aside from that black and white picture.

And yes, I KNOW she's Phasma. Makes me wonder why they wasted her the way they did. She's known for playing a sword swinger, and gives a pretty good battle shout, but rather than make her a Dark Jedi they made her a Stormtrooper and gave her a blaster and almost less screen time than Boba Fett.

You're not crazy, it's just a matter of taste. I don't think there's much that's more subjective than someone being hot, unless it's a food tasting good/bad.

Did they make many good decisions? I feel like making inexplicably bad choices has been the Star Wars norm since the prequels.

Man, even the Prequels made SOME good decisions. The action scenes were great, particularly the lightsaber duels which showed off just what telekinetic swordsmen should be capable of, the galaxy was GREATLY expanded with a bunch of new ships, aliens, and a bunch of different planets, and they let us see what the galaxy looked like BEFORE the Empire took over.

I could just look these up all day.

I wonder if Warner Bros. would consider putting Alan Scott in the DCEU.
