Was just playing through Portal again and I noticed something GlaDos says near the end "I'm the only thing standing between us and them." Which I thought was creepy, but then she says "Unless you can build a supercomputer in a real hurry then this place isn't going to be safe a lot longer"...Kinda made me think, did they have some different idea planned for Portal 2, was Glados made to defend against the combine or did she just know that there was a massive war happening on the surface and that the labs were going to be discovered by the Combine or the Humans? I hope Half Life 3 or ep 3 or whatever has some connection to Portal...

What are your thoughts? I'm interested to see some ideas

Well she does mention Black Mesa, so its safe to assume that Portal exists in the world of Half Life, so anything is possible really, up to the developers to decide if they take it farther

The Combine are really moon-men and they came to Earth to get revenge on Cave Johnson for stealing their moon rocks.

You can clearly see some Black Mesa references in Portal (and some more obvious Aperture Science references in Half-Life², Ep1&Ep2).

For those who finished HL² Ep1&2:

The Borealis is an Aperture Science boat. It contained an uncompleted portal device which malfunctioned and caused the boat and part of the docks to disappear. Judith and her team found it and went to investigate.

Oh, and if you have some time to spare, I found this with a quick Google search ;) (It contains spoileeeeers!):

There is a direct reference to Black Mesa in Portal. If you look through a window somewhere towards the end (I forget where) there's a slide show playing about how Black Mesa gets way more funding than Aperture Science, when Aperture has more successful projects or something.
And as Caedus points out, there are references to Aperture in Half Life. Point is, both games take place in the same canon. But I doubt there ever were, or will be, plans to combine the two more than they have.

Well the time that portal 1 is set in is kind of ambiguous, it could all be happening long after the events of Half life or during it (my guess would be that its NOT before it- as it would not be hard for the government to send some kind of recovery team to Apature labs before the whole invasion buisness).

But yes, i've always assumed that line is refering to the combine, its unlikely that Glados would'nt know that SOMETHING big is going on in the outside world, and she'd have the sense to know that even she wouldnt be able to fight the combine, so she'd keep Apature labs as well hidden as possible.

Episode 3 will have a link with Portal- portal 2 almost certainly happens LONG after the events of any of the other games (chel is in stasis for decades) but the Borealis mentioned in the other games is an apature research ship that vanished in a portal accident, weather or not it has any kind of AI on board we dont know.
-well whatever Valve have in store for us, I am almost certain we will not be visiting Apature labs in the Half life games, but we WILL be visiting the borealis, but it is extremely unlikely that either Glados or the portal gun will have any presense aside from loose reference.

Yes, because it wasn't like the location of an Aperture Science vessel was a key plot point in Half-life 2 Episode 2 or anything.

They have to "combine" together at some point anyway as like people have said "Aperture Science" and Black Mesa are both rivals. Both games have referances to the other and Cave Johnson at one point clearly says that Black Mesa stealing Apertures ideas is the cause of the much depleted funding they get.
