Prepare for a rant people. I apologise.

I've come to realise something: We here at this woundrous place are far more sensible than your average internet user. Of course, this is bandied about here a lot, but it's only when you try and debate (or argue, as it so often always devolves into) somewhere else that you realise how mch better it is here. Most people when given their internet anonimity (or even without that, in Facebook's case) just forgo a proper argument in favour of insults. Even if you don't lower yourself to their dark, shit-strewn depths it still happens.

So I realise this needs discussion! Tell me, oh fantastic Escapists, can you recall any retarded discussions you've had? Avoid naming stuff please, but tell! Share the idiocy all around!

EDIT: I think this needs a disclaimer. I don't see this site as quite as amazing as this thread makes out (altough we are a good forum), but at the time of posting I was immensely pissed off at several other forums I visit. I don't think that we are somehow superior to every other forum (hell, I'm a moderator on another forum), although I would say we are an above-average forum. And as for all these self congratulatory threads, well, I haven't seen them.

While that might be true, I've noticed that a lot of users here have an overwhelming sense of elitism compared to 90% of the other websites.

Going to GameFaqs about sums it up. Other forums weren't too bad, but this is the only forum where I feel like I belong. Also, I would rather go to the Jurassic Park Islands then browse GameFaqs. xD

I love you guys! ♥
But Jurassic Park has dinosaurs... of course you'd want to go there before anywhere else.

/confused

It's so made of win, it could only be better with high speed internet and escapist forum account.

Yes, I'm new here. And already I appreciate the community more than any other I've had the, err, pleasure of mingling with.

Permission to copy and paste from another thread? [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.203167-The-Most-Trivial-and-Pointless-Argument-Youve-Ever-Had?page=1]

Oh...oh god. I'm ASHAMED by this one. There was some guy actually defending that certain part in a certain game where a certain blue hedgehog kissed a certain most-likely underage human girl. He insisted that it was NOT a kiss, that it was CPR, and that even if it was a kiss that I'm being narrow-minded for not accepting a relationship between a blue animal and a human girl.

Oh, and I mentioned that the story was balls but that I had only watched part of a Let's Play and read about it on Wikipedia. "Well how can you possibly understand the more subtle details of the story if you haven't played it. All you're obviously doing is echoing the opinion of the Let's Play commentator. " Oh yes, it's not like the game is completely linear or anything with no possible ways for the story to diverge, and of course there's bound to be a side-quest that will suddenly make all these plot holes and pants-on-head retarded story elements go away. Yes, it's true that I can't have an opinion on the gameplay by only watching other people, but I'm not talking about the gameplay, now am I? As far as I know, I might actually love the gameplay, but it's not like each disk comes with a different storyline attached to it.

Ugh, never mind all that. I actually got into an argument over one of the dumbest scenes in gaming history, I'll never live that down.

Yeah, it seems to have its downsides. People forget that it's a forum created primarily to discuss the ol' Pew-Pew-Pew, which isn't necessarily the most intellectual of pursuits despite the flaming I will probably get for making that statement.

Cracked forums seem pretty okay, too. And SomethingAwful, but you need to pay for membership.

Quoted for truthiness. I could tell you stories about that, too. But I guess I shouldn't. A lot of people here also seem overwhelmingly negative about some things, though that's more the internet in general.

Well, we can't be perfect, can we?
I mean, being a regular at places like YouTube (ugh), I do tend to appreciate and somewhat justify the elitism of the Escapist community.
OT: Oh, oh, I've had a discussion on YouTube with a Halo fanboy that did Sub 4 Subs, cursed my country and hated all other shooters.
I don't genuinely buy into the bad reputation that Halo players get but that guy was annoying.

I agree. Just at the moment I'm annoyed at arguments from the wilderness of other forums, so The ol' 'scapist is to me at the moment like a big shining beacon of warm fuzzy sensible.

I give all credit to our overlords (read: mods) who do not tolerate the filth and drudgery that infest so many other forums.

Also: Everyone here is damn sexy. So that helps too.

I don't think you understand what I'm saying.
I'm saying that the god-complex most users have here is a bad thing.
Unless of course, your second sentence had nothing to do with my post, in which case, nevermind.

Meh, there's a lot of good and a lot of bad. Most of the big names are on the bad side of the spectrum (4chan, GameFAQs, Gaia Online, etc), and the Escapist is more on the good side of things.

Overall I really like it here (wouldn't be here if I didn't), but to say that everywhere else sucks in comparison is just not true.

I think both.

Whilst I agree that users here tend to be a bit elitist, I also think I came off as rather elitist in the OP, which is just because I was pissed off.

I saw a facebook forum where a guy called a book series childishly written, and idiotic. He had never even read the whole series, but stopped at book one and used internet reviews for teh rest. When presented with evidence that didn't agree with his point, he ignored it in favor of insulting people's spelling and gramar, and to furthur bash the books with no evidence. He was a troll, adn my dnd groups villain is named after him, cant wait for us to destroy him. lol.
