Gonna be honest, not gonna buy any future products from the company if they think this is fair treatment to people. They are just whining because their support couldn't keep up with the amount of people using the service.
What are you whining about?

The games you bought have no form of DRM, and don't require you to be connected to their service; so once you have them, you have them. From the sound of it you will also be able to re-download them should you need to. You have gotten exactly what you paid for and agreed to.

SO you're whining because they are not continuing to re-release even MORE games for you to buy? They have every right to stop doing that and whatever reason they have (not making enough money, or just not interested anymore and moving on) is good enough, because it is completely their prerogative. They provided you with the service you paid for, how is that a "scam"?

By all means be upset at the fact that you won't be getting even more great deals and revivements of old games to enjoy, but don't be pissed at them for making that decision. They're a company, a business, sometimes businesses have to be shut down; and they don't owe you anything besides what you already got from individual purchases
Excellent point. Unlike Steam, GOG's games can run independent of any servers and DRM licenses. As the site closes, the games I've already purchased from there at bargain prices are still more than capable of running. It'll just be up to us users to keep the original setup files intact if we wish to reinstall at a future date.

It's disappointing to hear they're going but I'm not gonna throw any cd's out of the box as it were. They've done a good service but people here saying it's a scam? In what respect and for what evidence do you have for it. We were able to buy games that cannot be found in stores anymore and 99% of them worked off the bat (worse case scenario you had to do some slight tweaking in the settings and such) but they were still better than some ebay scratched used CD any day.
Sorry but how is this a scam? You bought games, downloaded them and enjoyed going back to some fond gaming memories that I personally think had a better back catalogue than Steam did. You didn't even need to play the games with an internet connection and no constant linkup to a server unlike Steam

Ah..nevermind. I am not getting through.
but there is no point to your argument here.
A store had to close it's business and it's customers don't lose a thing. (except the opportunity to buy more stuff).

IF steam someday closes down and doesn't provide a patch, you've got reasons to be upset, but there's just nothing here.

What the hell!?

At least we'll still be able to re-download our games, but this is dumb! D: Ugh... guess I'll have to wait for Steam to get all the old games I want, or I'll have to order from Amazon. This sucks. :[
It sucks so bad. I love GOG, they had stuff nobody else had at way low prices, damn it, now we've either got to wait for Steam to update with a bunch of old games or...ugh...order from a store...so overpriced...

Please come back, GOG

WTF happened, I was buying alot of games from then and all of the sudden they decide that this whole thing just randomly bores them? What a freaking scam.
If you couldn't play the games you bought from them anymore it would be a scam. But I can still play Fallout. It wasn't a scam. It was a non-intrusive downloadable game service, and it treated people like actual people instead of potential pirates by not putting any DRM in the games. It was amazing, and easily the best "shop" because of that.

And besides, we should take this as a warning. Just like that, a fairly popular service shuts down. Makes me wonder what would happen if Steam shuts down.

Unfortunately I never heard of GOG. I just buy most of my games from a store or use steam. If the site ever comes back online I would try it out.

Damnit, I never got round to using them.

I can't wait for their new form to make them more money and people to decry them as sell-outs.

This isn't very professional, just replacing the home page like that. Makes it look like they were hacked but I suspect that some publisher set the lawyers on them and they didn't have any choice.

Man, remember when you could just buy games in boxes and not have to use some online service to activate or download them and not have to worry about the state of every company you bought games from. Those were the days.

Another rumour is that this is a way to get big publicity for a re-launch.

Want me to go over to their office tomorrow and ask?
I literally live a block away from the CDProject headquarters

I am not judging their service but rather how easily all your DD games can become worthless if a service shuts down. I am saying that it could happen to Steam too and I am really not buying that they have a patch to unlock your games since that would require approval from the publisher of each game.
nope. The games would have become worthless only because of drm.

gog.com had no drm whatsoever, if you downloaded the install files for the games you bought and burned them to dvds or made other backup, this doesn't affect you.
I know that (from this thread) but Steam IS DRM and is also a DD service.

steam is the future of all gaming. I don't think anyone has to worry about their steam account not working. Like you said, you hadn't heard of gog until now, and that's probably why they're shutting down, they're not a household name in the industry, and this industry is a "AMAZING SUCCESS" or "DISMAL FAILURE" only industry. There is NO prize for second place.

As for microsoft's music DD, it's sort of the same deal with this.. and soon their GFWL service as well will probably be going away, because they're competing with both iTunes and Steam, and not providing anything that iTunes and Steam don't do much much MUCH MUCH better. So they will fail.

It would take something pretty amazing to take the place of Steam.. I doubt it will ever happen fully
