The GOG holiday sale is making me want to buy 2 or 3 of these games. I know I can't get all of them, but there are quite a few that caught my eye as I have heard they are great games that I would like.

The games in particular at this very moment are:

Baldur's gate 2
Planescape: Torment
Psychonauts
Beyond Good and Evil
Fallout

So Escapist. Which 3 would you recommend to me?

EDIT: I just found out there's more than just those games on the sale...

This makes it a lot harder.

Those I listed still apply, but I want you to recommend any similar games as well that's shown in the link.

What exactly are you looking for from these games and have you ever played any classic computer rpg like Baldur's Gate or Planescape before? Because if you *have* and you enjoyed it then I'd almost certainly recommend both of those without restraint. If you haven't however I'd ere towards the side of caution and only recommend Baldur's Gate 2 initially as it's more user friendly and a more cohesive experience compared to Torment.

I'd say go with Baldur's Gate 2, Psychonauts and Beyond Good and Evil myself. Replace Good and Evil with Torment if you're interested in those sorts of rpg and are confident you'll be able to get into it.

Personally I'm almost certainly going to be picking up Rollercoaster Tycoon 2 and perhaps Nox as well. Great sale with some amazing games!

Whatever, just wash your hands.
Definitely go with Psychonauts, they are all good but that one is damn awesome.

I've farmiliarized myself with torment, I've seen gameplay and played a bit of it myself when someone let me have a go at it, and I loved it.

So far psychonauts, baldur's gate 2 and torment are the main choices here. I think I will definately be getting torment and psychonauts.

Planescape Torment, Baldur's Gate 2 and Fallout are the best (well, also Fallout 2, but might as well play the first one first).

Pretty much every game on the list you linked to is good, with a few exceptions.

Duke nukem 3d played using this emulator: http://eduke32.com/

Blood is a good one, but not the emulator it comes with. Still very fun old OLD school shooter.

Painkiller, GREAT, shouldn't need an emulator (of course), definitely consider that one. $5 how can you go wrong?

Fallout 1 and 2 tempt me... I already own them, of course... but I'm not sure how well they'll run on modern machines like mine... On the other hand, I hate rebuying games I already have.

Argh...

If you're RPG fan go for Baldurs Gate 2, Planescape: Torment and Psychonauts (this is also my recommendation)
Otherwise replace Planescape: Torment with Beyond Good and Evil (if you're insane :p)
Thank you for pointing this out I wasn't aware of it and this is a perfect opportunity to pick something up.

Then definitely go for it. Planescape: Torment is the best book you'll ever play!

Psychonauts meanwhile is just insanely fun and creative, I've been meaning to replay that sometime. Funny as hell too, go figure. And Baldur's Gate 2 is arguably the best overall rpg ever made. Top notch gameplay, story, visuals, music, games got it all.

Between those three you're in for a month or so of pure gaming bliss!

I so far bought:

Another World
Fahrenheit
FreeSpace
FreeSpace 2
Outcast
Sacrifice
Wing Commander 3

I would have bought BGE and Psychonauts if I didn't already own them on Steam.

Definitely. I actually prefer Fallout 2 over the first game but that's more a personal preference. Both games are largely independent so you can play the first without the second and the second without the first and so on. Both are also damned good! Fallout 1 is the more serious game, Fallout 2 is the one that largely introduced the black humour to the series though it also deals with mature topics.

Baldur's Gate, the first one, is also damned good. Hasn't aged nearly as gracefully as its much more advanced sequel and some elements aren't quite to par as the sequel, but on the flip side it's also a much more open experience with a genuinely huge map that's almost completely open to exploration right from the very beginning. It's also pretty damned hard but rewarding.

Starting off as a little level 1 pipsqueak in ye olden DnD was never easy and Baldur's Gate doesn't hold hands. Extremely gratifying however once you do begin to gain in power however, especially if you carry the character over to Baldur's Gate 2 and play the same protagonist through the entire series going from little weakling barely capable of surviving a wolf attack to a demi-god of the Forgotten Realms setting!

And then of course there are the mods. If you own Baldur's Gate 2, which you likely will, you can actually download a mod that ports the original game into the sequels much improved and higher-resolution engine. It's bloody brilliant. Here's that mod right here.

I also really really highly recommend this mod as well. Just makes Baldur's Gate a much better experience and adds a bit of much needed personality. Such a well done mod you'll likely never even know what's official and what has been added in.
