The reason I like GOG is I buy a game, I get the download link, and then it is mine to own without any further interruption/logging in to/monitoring from the people I bought it from. Like it used to be.
Just let me download the games and leave me be. That's all I want.
Pretty much this, I don't know why the "Master Race" of gamers basically gave Steam a monopoly thereby making it so they have less ownership over their games than console users but yet call them "peasants". Well, at least I can sell my games.
You realize we didn't have a choice in the matter, right? I remember in the late 2000's, there was a sudden switch even if you bought the game, you would need Steam to actually run it [https://www.google.com/search?client=avast&biw=1707&bih=818&ei=9TbtXI3CGITI_Qa--q7QDQ&q=pc+games+disc+still+need+steam+to+run&oq=pc+games+disc+still+need+steam+to+run&gs_l=psy-ab.3..33i160l2.85347.98514..99580...10.0..1.225.6371.1j45j1......0....1..gws-wiz.......0i71j35i39j0j0i131j0i67j0i131i67j0i20i263j0i10j0i13j0i22i30j33i22i29i30j33i299.pKLDDp6eh9s].
A lot of us wondered why even bother with the Disc after that point?

That's what a lot of us were annoyed at Steam at to begin with. The idea that curating their own storefront wasn't their problem, apparently and hoping that EGS would kick their ass into actually trying to fix themselves, regardless of how we felt about the EGS.
I'm fine with STEAM in general but they need to admit they have issues that need to be addressed and actually address them. Same with the EGS, just in case people think I'm letting them off easy(Seriously, months and still no shopping cart?).
For a long time it wasn't up to steam.
I'm sure urged on by the phenomenon of Minecraft (which I still don't get), Steam wanted in on the next big indie hit. Likewise, did small developers want to have a chance to be the next Minecraft as well.
So to get an idea of what people might actually buy, they put out Steam Greenlight. Which only stopped nearly two years ago [https://www.polygon.com/2017/6/6/15749692/steam-direct-launch-date-valve-greenlight].
Broforce [https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=93927889], which again, isn't my cup of Team came from Greenlight. The Stanley Parable [https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=95511356] came from Greenlight. Miasmata [https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=92915716], Rogue Legacy [https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=136969358], Waking Mars [https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=92975821], Satellite Reign [https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=157080530], Superhot [https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=177990278], fucking Shovel Knight [https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=132072322]... For a long period of time, we controlled what we were going to see. Some of it was dreck that people chose because they wanted to see the world burn, and some are geniune classics that we're enjoying to this day.
I mean, this is a case of Steam can't do anything right because it's the biggest. When they removed adult or Censored adult games like Huniepop [https://www.destructoid.com/-update-valve-is-suddenly-targeting-adult-visual-novels-for-removal-from-steam-503730.phtml], the internet lost its shit. How DARE they censor us!
When steam reversed the decision and said everything is allowed that isn't trolling or illegal [https://www.polygon.com/2018/6/6/17435260/steam-visual-novels-adult-violent-games], the internet lost its shit. How DARE they not regulate this thing? Don't they have any respect?!
There will be no winning for them.
I said this before, Steam needs competition, and I base that solely on feeling competition brings out the best in anything. But being at the top, they are just a target for ire. Some deserved, some just hating. They'll never please everyone. I think they just learned to accept that.
Steam can't be everything for everyone. It can be a gaming platform. It decided to do that.

Agreed that it has become clear that EGS has shitty practices(and a lack of basic QoL), how do we make Valve get off their ass and improve their PC dominating STEAM service? Because right now there aren't a lot of options as far as PC is concerned.
And before you say GOG, there's a ton of games that will never show up on GOG due to the required connectivity issues(anything by Ubisoft in the last decade due to Uplay, for example) or will show up on GOG long after it shows up on STEAM(Seriously GOG, I'm still waiting for Baba is You. STEAM has had it for Months now, and yet it looks right up your alley). Pretty much all the other services are publisher Centric(Origin, Uplay, the Blizzard one), so right now there's a hurting of any meaningful competition.
The said thing is, it's going to take Epic's money with Gog's sensibilities.
If Gog and Notch teamed up, Steam would have to innovate like never before.
