When I played Infamous 2 I liked it, but I was thinking, oh the original is so much better. The Graphics were wayyyy better and the powers were better. Then I went back and played the first one. I was like oh,oh this is not better than two. The graphics aren't actually all that amazing, 2's are better. Wow, the powers in the second one are way better. Whelp that's rose tinted glassed for you.

So what are your moments like that?

also as an aside: How annoying would actual rose tinted glasses be. It would be like constantly being near death in an fps.

I guess the sonic adventure games. The cutscenes are...just so bad. It's like they just had no idea how 3D modeling worked yet. And Knuckles' levels in 2 were a pain in the ass to get through. These are some of the few games I love that I can admit have some fucked up design.

"I found you, faker!"

"Faker? I think you're the fake hedgehog around here. You're comparing yourself to me? Hah! You're not even good enough to be-"

"I'LL MAKE YOU EAT THOSE WORDS"

Ahhh, the English dialogue, where they cut each other off.

It is Bioshock Infinite. TLoU had better companion mechanics. I just watched a Extra Credits on it and I played Bioshock again. I think all of those ellements combined took away from Infinite and I just don't view it as a masterpiece I thought it once was.

An older game is Basket ball nightmare. I think I was 8 when I first played that game. When I got older it just seems like a weak basketball game with too few levels, lame creature design and a run down repetative theme song.

Baldur's Gate 2.

Whilst still a class story and at heart a great game, the pathfinding issues are just infuriating.
"You must gather your party before venturing forth" grinds my teeth, and is always a result of some idiot getting stuck on a menacing tree and wandering off.
I still think that overall it holds up pretty well - the original, not so much.

For me, both GoldenEye and Perfect Dark; I recently dug up my old N64 and remembered how much I'd loved those games. Returning to them, they just seem so awkward. That may also be because my hand has healed up whatever physical deformity required to use the N64 controller ...

Actually Doom 2! I haven't played that game for probably 10 years and only have good memories of it. A few months ago I thought it would be fun to install it and give it another bash for old times sake. What a blurry mess! And why can't I use the mouse? Why can't I look up or down!!! That one was probably best left alone.

Slightly off topic but around the same time I tried the original X-Wing game again and found that was still surprisingly playable.

I don't have that problem. Really. I swear I'm not lying, maybe it's because I never really stopped playing 'older' games but I've never had this nostalgia goggles moment other people talk about so often on gaming forums. Sure there are some games which age better than others but if it's a game I enjoyed way back in yonder olden days of ten-ish years ago I can confidently say I still enjoy it today.

Heck looking at my hard-drive I'd say any game made within the last console generation, so the last eight or so years, is actually in the minority. Meanwhile a lot of those games which are from relatively recent are also 'retro' like FTL or Legend of Grimrock. Guess I'm just funny that way.

My super-power is to be able to play old games and still enjoy them thoroughly... It's not a very good super-power but it's mine!

Oh God, that's just reminded me of that problem in KOTOR. Especially infuriating on Dantooine, where at the time I used to get all kinds of graphical lag, so having to backtrack was just infuriating.
