- The most important academic skill you will learn is writing. Unlike most topics, it will directly affect your success in college and/or the Real World (TM). Learn to do it well.
- The second most important skill you will learn is public speaking. Give drama and/or speech & debate club (or even mock trial) a try.
- AP classes aren't just harder, they're also more interesting.
- The faculty can be your worst enemy or your best friend. Choice is up to you.
- Stay away from anything "harder" than alcohol.
- Tolerate people who are different from you. Don't explode if they fail to return the favor.
- Join an athletic team. I recommend basketball.
- Have a cell phone, especially after people start getting cars. Otherwise you're not getting invited to any parties.
- Getting into fights every once in a while is understandable. Using anything other than your fists is not.
