Tomorrow I have my annual check up with the dentist. Of all the things in the world, going to the dentist is one of my least favourite things to do. I just don't like the prodding and poking and pain and possibility of more pain. My last few visits have been perfectly fine though and my teeth feel fine and have been fine so I don't think I have anything to worry about.

Anyway, my ramblings aside. How do you feel about going to the dentist? How often do you go and do you usually need work done? Most of the people I know share the same feelings of dislike so i'm interested in how my fellow escapists feel.

Well im not the right person for this since my mother is a dentist so no fears there!

I actually kinda like going to the dentist once a year and be taken care of like going to a doctor for a regular checkup!

I actully like going to the dentist. They wear gloves so I don't mind them looking around inside my mouth and it's nice to know that I have an expert looking at my teeth so I will be told if they are in bad condition. I assume your American? So operations with teeth will probably hurt a lot right?

A few American friends of mine tell me that most dentists use crap Anasthetic(I think that's the word) so it can hurt.
I live in Britain and I recently had 4 teeth taken out in one operation, didn't hurt much at all. I felt them come out but it wasn't really painful at all.

I'm Australian actually and we do have good dentists. The biggest dental work I've had was getting my wisdom teeth out and I was completely under throughout the operation. The doctor was great and did a terrific job.

I don't really mind it, but it's no fun getting lectured with your mouth full of hands and dental tools

Actually you may turn it into surprisingly funny event.
As soon as your dentist orders you to open your mouth, shout FUS RO DAH as loud as you can.
He should fly out of the window straight into air.
I am sure there will be plenty of hilarity ensued. :)

I would rather go to the dentist then a car mechanic any day, and at one point I needed 3 teeth to be taken out at once.

I hate it, I always feel pain despite the numbing medicine. I don't have insurance so I only go when something really bad has happened. Like when a filling popped out.

Though at least the chairs are comfy when I'm squirming around as drill. Arg, can't stand that noise.

I haven't been to the dentist in years :/ I don't even think I've signed up to any! Or maybe they just forgot about me. :(
Although I have a wisdom tooth growing in my mouth and it hurts, so I'll probably have to go one day soon.

I don't realy mind going to the dentist because it's mostly open, it's fine close begone twice a year.
But a silencer on the drill would be very nice because I can't stand the damn noise.

I'm not very uncomfortable with the check-ups themselves.
They're just a trip to the dentist to let her have a look at my teeth. They've even improved the x-ray stuff so that it doesn't cut my gums and I don't even have to leave the chair.

What I do hate is the horrible angst that accompanies every dentist's visit. I just can't stand drilling, and it's all too common an occurance for me.

I don't mind going to the dentist now. I was put off about 15 years ago when I had to have a couple of fillings and it was so unpleasant that I simply didn't go again.

I started going again about 2 years ago and I had to have a rotten tooth extracted (there really wasn't much left of it and was causing me pain), that wasn't fun. It took 3 shots of anesthetic to get my mouth numb enough (I think they were being stingy) and then it still hurt. Mind you it wasn't so much the pain, it was the horrible cracking noise as the tooth came out. After half an hour, the dentist said that she couldn't get the roots out because the tooth was so rotten, so I had to be refered to a dental surgeon which scared me more than the thought of having the tooth pulled. Mind you, it wasn't too bad, he gave me some really good anesthetic and was done in about 5 minutes, never felt a thing.

I think I'm going to need a filling next time I go, the dentist pointed it out last time and I suppose I better get it done before it gets too bad. Plus my dentist is an extremely attractive Spanish girl, so you know, its not all bad.

I really don't like the uncomfortable check-ups and such, but hey, my dentist is hot, and I have a reason to eat a buttload of ice cream afterwards, so it's not all bad.

I've never had any surgeries or fillings or anything of the like at the dentist. However I still dread it because it's about ten to fifteen minutes of painful scraping. Plus I get lectured at because of my bad gums.

I think fear of the dentist based off of anything other than past personal experience is rediculous.

I've never been afraid of the dentist.

I don't get annual check ups though because I can't afford it and for some reason it's not free here. Why the fuck can I get my eyes tested for free but not my teeth??
