If she really did keep her gold there, then its' not surprising they wouldn't pay-up.
Exactly. In my country for example, there is a law that specifies that you have to do everything in your power to prevent your insured property from being stolen/destroyed etc. She didn't do anything to prevent such a thing. She was asking for it and she shouldn't be refunded because of it. Normally I hate isurance companies but this time they are actually right.

Gold isn't a good investment.

And ahahahaha at a gold seller losing their 'gold'.

Doesn't Gold-selling violate the TOS?

Why would anyone buy gold bullion? It seems so pointless.
As far as I'm aware, people who are hoarding lots of money like to buy gold bullion with it because a bank can crash or inflation can make you have a lot less. However, gold tends to stay at a very high and constant price... I think.

Gold really did start jumping when those rappers were making everything from teeth and cars to pools and planes out of gold...and those wars over in that place with the sand and stuff...coincidence? Meh, I'm not Jesse Ventura, I don't care.

But um how come the insurance company won't pay...they sorta have to if she was covered under her policy.

Because cash can become useless while gold has a constant value worldwide, it was the first standard currency.

Okay.... That's a different story. Seriously though, I would protect my gold a little better than her. Not that I would make WoW my career that is...

Investing in gold is a terrible idea. There is absolutely no set "value" on gold, it's only worth what people are willing to pay for it. The reason it's worth so much now is because it's easy to freak people out by claiming that "the dollar will soon be worthless!" and the only way to save themselves is to buy gold that they can sell later. Guess what? These people are driving up the price of gold on purpose so they can sell their gold at a high price, and then watch as the market crashes back down around it.

You make no income whatsoever on gold. You're also going to lose money storing gold because you need to pay for something called a "safekeeping" fee. Similar to insurance, you have to pay for this just to own the gold itself. That's a lot of money over time to protect an investment that isn't netting you anything in return.

It also has no utility at all. It's heavy and it's useless. It may be worth to have it as a small part of your investment portfolio, but you certainly don't want to dedicate yourself to it. If paper money ever became useless, so would gold. You can't eat either.

Well it makes sense, and it is kinda shady... All those gold bars going missing. No mention of police reports though, so I'd live to know just HOW it was stolen. You'd think you'd keep gold bars like that in a vault of a safe or something. Also would love to know how much time went by before it was stolen
Not that I know it's the truth or not but maybe it just became habit for her(Like hey that's really easy to buy 1 gold bar once a month and it just sorta became a habit and never got to a point where it'd be logical to buy a safe [Good enoungh to hold that much and morew without puting her back at zero or 15-20 bars] as it was always it's only one more bar. Like putting off going to the gym tomorrow's only a day away) As for no Bank? paranoid of Market crash, her Bank going bankrupt etc? the No Police report part is interesting.

Edit which could have been how the thieves planned for it seeing a small stack of gold then seeing it getting bigger when they checked on it again and figured they'd wait a bit before coming back and getting an even bigger score which would allow for planning of a getaway vehicle(s) and extra man power.

Oh my, that golf-farming apparently pays off really well. Maybe i should start it too? :D
But really, why would you buy gold as a normal person? For me it seems like the whole robbing thing could have been staged. Still a pretty funny story though.
Gold is actually one of the most sound commodities to invest in. The price is stable and almost always on the rise. But yeah, if she's keeping blocks of gold in her house and then they get stolen, which is not easy cause a brick of gold usually weighs like 50lbs, the smart money is on staged robbery. But maybe she just really gets wet seeing a big pile of gold and wanted to look at it.. who knows.

Because gold bullion is quite literally currency, the meaning behind the little bits of paper you buy stuff with.

I hope she gets her money. Thats a lot of loot to lose.
I do as well because that is a massive loss if it truly was stolen.

I don't play WoW, but I'd say she has a right to do whatever she wants if she can profit from something that is silly enough on its own: Someone was willing to not only pay for the game, possibly expansions, and the monthly subscription fees and then pay her to accumulate imaginary currency in exchange for real currency. I don't know whether to laugh or just facepalm and sigh.

Glad that I'm not the only one thinking that :p. It also seems that she didn't file a police report... Which adds to the fishiness of this theft.

Wait... Ain't the whole "Selling gold to people over the internet" illegal or atleast again Blizzard's terms?
It's not illegal but Blizzard can ban her for breaking their rules if they find out her account(s) but it's the part where her property was stolen (not so much how it was paid for except to have purpose on a gaming site) and her insurance not willing to cover it due to them thinking she arranged for it to be stolen. So it'd be like finding Ivory selling it for cash then using the cash to buy a Sports Car if the CAr is stolen the how you paid for it shouldn't effect the insurance on it,but They think the particual situation is just being done to double her money.

If the theft didn't involve at least 3 tricked out Cooper Mini's, Tyler Durden, and Marky Mark, I'm calling BULLSHIT!

She's a gold farmer.

Who cares what happens to her? I'm rooting for the thieves myself.

How much would $75,000 in gold weigh? That's no easy burglary job.
Around 10-15kg per bar. And yeah, I'm also questioning the burglary job, check my post on the first page for more details. To be quite honest, I find it easier to believe that she either arranged the theft of the gold herself or she never had the gold to begin with.

If we average that out to about 12.5 kg per bar, then according to my calculator, they shifted 937.5kg of gold without getting noticed... Sounds a little shifty to me.
You are thinking of the Hollywood image of gold bars.

Gold bars are actually sold in much smaller sizes for smaller investments/purchases. Just the other day I sold 2 gold bars I had to my local pawn shop. One was a 5g bar (about the size of a penny) and the other was a 10g bar (same size but twice as thick...two pennies stacked).

Gold is currently about $45 per gram so I got about $600 from the sale but if we went by your weight estimates (12.5 kg, 1 kg = 1000g, so 12.5 kg = 12,500 g) then only one bar of the size you're thinking of would go for $562,500...much more than what the article says she actually lost.

If $75,000 worth of gold were added together my guess would put it all to be about the size of a candy bar...easily stolen by one person...and without a truck.

I think this is more like Poetic Justice. Gold Farmers tend to wreck the economy of MMO's. But I suppose my opinion is subjective.
