I only put up with it because I played MP with my friends every week end. When that stopped I quit XBL. XBL kinda sucks. You pay for MP that isn't as good as PC MP (that's free) and a whole load of other shit that you're probably not gonna use.
It sounds like you don't understand how it works at all.migo said:I had the Xbox Live Gold trial for a month, and was thoroughly unimpressed. Bought a year in January because spending $1200 on an HDTV and then watching Netflix on a Wii seemed like a waste, so I've been trying out some online play. The Crysis 2 MP demo worked fine. I also decided to give Breach a shot since there was no PC demo. Half the matches I was in ended because the host left.
If I were actually paying for multiplayer (as opposed to getting HD Netflix rather than SD, in which case I'm getting what I'm paying for), I'd be pissed off! Having matches cut out because one person leaves isn't an acceptable "premium" gaming experience.
So to all you guys who love Xbox Live Gold, and I know you're out there, how do you put up with crap like that?
Is there a universal piece of software that handles all PC matchmaking? Of course not, it falls upon the developer to make it work, the same way it does for the Xbox, XBL is just a system that gives everyone a username so they can be held accountable for what they do, and manages downloads and purchases. The actual matchmaking is handled by the developer, so if that part of it fails, it's their fault.Troublesome Lagomorph said:I only put up with it because I played MP with my friends every week end. I just find it disagreeable to pay for a service that you can get a better version of on PC.danpascooch said:Is there a universal piece of software that handles all PC matchmaking? That's the thing though, you can't get a better version of that service on the PC, because there is NO universal service like that on the PC, the closest thing I can think of is Steam, but that's hardly the "official" service that every single game uses.Troublesome Lagomorph said:I just find it disagreeable to pay for a service that you can get a better version of on PC.danpascooch said:Is there a universal piece of software that handles all PC matchmaking? Wrong. It happens on more games on 360 than just Breach, and it doesn't happen on any games on PC.shabobble said:Unless you played Breach on the PC, this argument is invalid.migo said:.Since it's a problem I've never encountered before on PC....Pirate Yoda Online said:Your issue here is with Breach, not with Xbox Live Gold, you can't just play ONE game that is broken and then blame the system for it.
This makes sense, also explains why when people ask for 360 exclusives, people still spout games that are on Windows, or occasionally also on the PS3.mighty_wambat said:this is an interesting point, the reason why you are able to understand just what xbox live gold is and is not, is perspective. most gamers have only 1.
true, it was one of the big reasons it took me so long to come over to consoles, with Unreal Tournament being my favourite game.many gamers are under 21, they did not spend 1200 bucks on there tv, there parents did. they do not understand the contrast between xbox live and steam or between jedi outcast and force unleashed
when you only have xbox live, its easy to put up with. after all, online gaming is amazing.
Yeah, it's on my to buy list, but finances were tight (post christmas and all), so paying $40 now ended up working out better than spending $300 I didn't really have. Particularly since I expected the TV to include Netflix (it does, in the US, in Canada, it doesn't, fucking Sony...)so, how do they put up with it?
~ by not understanding that it is a vastly inferior service at an unreasonably inflated price.
will this change?
~ yes, i think it has to.
what can you do to insure that the invisible hand guides away from this inferior model?
~not support it. i suggest a PlayStation 3. it will pay for it self in 3 years on your current system, it looks great, and if you are missing games like uncharted 2 and heavy rain, you are missing out.
My girlfriend bought the Xbox 360 months ago. She also bought a Wii. Before we were watching Netflix on the Wii with a 15" TV. After upgrading to the 40" TV, Netflix looked crappy, so I paid an extra $40 to get access to it on the 360.Mimsofthedawg said:hold on, I'm confused... you bought an Xbox to pay for a $60 gold membership to watch Netflix when you could buy a PS3 and pay $7 a month for Netflix? Oh, and I play on my PS3. 360 was the biggest waste of money EVER..... thought luckily I got it as an Xmas present.
I mean....... I can see why some people would want it with certain games? But even their exclusives, in my opinion, pale to the exclusives on the PS3. Plus, Blu Ray.
But I don't mean to turn this into a flame war. I'm just saying I can't understand why anyone would want a 360, ESPECIALLY if it was just for netflix.
