So...it looks like they took Goldeneye, swirled in some Call of Duty guns and animations, some generic FPS-style multiplayer options, updated the graphics 65% of the way, slapped the Goldeneye name on the box and repacked it to make it look like something new? Yeah...no dice.

Looks to me like anyone could've made that. Where the fuck are his gadgets!?

Yeah its just a HD version of the remake they made on the WII a while ago.
The game was actually pretty decent, varied mission objectives, good sense of weight and power to the guns and some okay stealthing. All in all not a bad game, I wouldn't recommend a buy, but its worth a rent, just to see the ideas in golden-eye re-imagined and updated.

I wouldn't shoot it down straight away, the original golden-eye doesn't really hold up too well anymore so its nice to see it updated, and all the original split screen fun is still pretty much intact...

The Wii game was actually pretty good honestly. It wasn't much like GoldenEye but it was a fun game. This is just an HD update of it, right?

Pretty much, I played the old Golden-Eye from time to time still, and honestly it hasn't aged well at all. It more has to do with the controls than anything else.

Usually, I get a little annoyed when people compare something to CoD, just because it's an FPS, But it's as if they've just wholesale lifted the engine/guns from CoD.

I believe they originally made it using the engine they used for the Wii CoD titles. So, yeah, its CoD's engine with Goldeneye's assets.
*shrugs*
I still have a perfectly good Nintendo 64 in my cupboard. I don't see the need to give Activision Blizzard any more money.

Waaaahhh I'm not 10 years old anymore, developers FIX THIS NOW.

Man I hate nostalgia so much sometimes. I might actually try this now because as a kid I hated GoldenEye so much. Even then I felt the controls were shit.

Looks pretty decent. This is based on the Wii version which people said was actually pretty good. And I'm sorry, you can say N64 Goldeneye revolutionized FPS's and shit, but at the end of the day it has aged very, very badly.

Might give this one a look (though I think Daniel Craig makes a rubbish Bond), last Bond game I played was Everything or Nothing, which I thought kicked some serious ass.

I remember going back to play Goldeneye a few years ago. To say the least, it hasn't aged gracefully in the slightest. The advances in console FPS controls just make the game feel... old. The mechanics themselves just feel funny when viewed through a modern paradigm as well. Goldeneye is a classic, but it's one of those classics that you can only like if you grew up playing it. The game has aged ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLY. The updated graphics and gameplay will only serve the game better in the long run, so I believe.

Besides, it's been years since I've really played Goldeneye, and I totally recognize a lot of the locations. I'll certainly be looking forward to this title.

Eh. I don't see much of an issue with the controls, but then I always played it using dual analog control. (control scheme 2.1 - On N64, that means using 2 controllers at once.)

Ok.

If you don't like it, don't play it.

I don't see much of a problem.

You're really going to be mad when you learn what they did to star wars... and g.i. joe... and thundercats... and transformers... etc.

Developers remake and release thing. Nostalgia is a hot property. Deal with it or bury your head in the sand, your choice.

What doesn't "kill your childhood" these days?

It's called change, OP. If you want to play the original Goldeneye, then go buy an old N64 and a copy of the game itself off of eBay. Problem solved. Going on the internet and complaining that a new version of a game that quite frankly, sucks by today's standards isn't going to bring back your "killed" childhood.

Either adapt and enjoy, or don't. This isn't 1997 anymore.

I think it looks fine. I am curious though, is it an updated remake (i.e same levels, etc.) of Goldeneye, or is it a brand new game with the Goldeneye name? Because while some elements of it looked very familiar (the Dam level), I couldn't put my finger on if it was one or the other.

Overall, it looks pretty cool. I was never that huge of a Goldeneye fan, to be honest. Even back when it was new, I couldn't get over the fact that it looked and controlled like crap. For a Wii game, though, this doesn't look half bad.
