I know I am not the only one to get excited because they learned a personal favorite was going to be dubbed and possibly brought over only to hear it get massacred by bad translations and voices that just feel wrong. So I was hoping for you to share a specific situation where it felt especially heinous to you.

Gantz! Oh god, Gantz!
But to be fair, the Anime wasn't all that great to begin with.

I present to you the "Over 9000!" dubbing
That is all

Exactly, if anything this is the best thing to happen to anime in years

I hate dubbing in general. I prefer Subs over Dubs. I remember listening to Naruto dub, Naruto sounded like a 5 year old brat taking a shit.

Let's see... Everything? Minus the majority of the dub work in IGPX, it's always been better sub'd than dub'd.

My worst experience had to be with higurashi no naku koro ni It had an amazing story that I simply love but the dub made my ears bleed so much I couldn't make it through a single episode

The vast majority sucks.

Hellsing is one of the few anime that had a fantastic English dub. The first few seasons of Ranma 1/2 were pretty good too.

Pretty much every anime sucks when dubbed. There are only a handful of cases where the dub was as good as the original(Full Metal Alchemist and Death note are the only ones I can think of)

I don't know if anime people concider Digimon as anime, but the Finnish dub... Legendarily bad. I don't know where they got these guys to act:

You don't have to understand, someone actually made English subs for this. I seriously gotta ask: What the hell is wrong with the actors!?

Honestly, it's easier to list anime that weren't hurt by dubbing. Not killed, necessarily; there's a difference between bad dubbing and mediocre dubbing.

Cowboy Bebop has stupendous dubbing. I'd rate it as equal to the original Japanese, if not better. I haven't seen very many anime with this characteristic (others include Samurai Champloo and The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya).

Rurouni Kenshin has good dubbing. There's some translation oddities (mostly trying to reflect accent and idiom, like Kenshin's super-humble speech, or Chou's kansai dialect), and some characters (Yahiko especially) were hit-or-miss, but overall it works very well. Others in this category would include Evangelion, Yu Yu Hakusho, and the Slayers OVAs (not the TV show).

Dragonball Z has mediocre dubbing. A lot of the characters were still okay to listen to, and overdramatics aside (though really, I'm pretty sure the guy doing Vegeta was just trying to match the lip movement), the DBZ dub didn't harm the show too badly. Others in this category would include...well, tons, really. The odd one that comes to mind is Sailor Moon, but actually, it's the Japanese version of that that makes me cringe.

One Piece has bad dubbing. As in "oh god oh god, my ears are bleeding." See also...more tons. The thing that comes immediately to mind is Campus, but I'm pretty sure that's because porn stars aren't great voice actors.

I can list the ones I think were dubbed well, because if I don't like the voices I won't watch a dub.

But if there's one thing I hate it's the elitist bullshit excuse of "all dubs are shit, I only watch them with subtitles because an American voice actor can't portray the same sense of raw emotion someone from Japan can". You do realize this doesn't make you sound smart, deep, or cool. It makes you sound like the type of lose who never leaves their basement and has a collection on Hentai on the shelf behind you.

Everyone here is saying the dubbing is terrible. I guess I wouldn't know but I find it hard to believe that its so bad.

Well, I bet stuff like Naruto has been hurt bad. It the kind of anime I watch, like Ghost in the Shell, that makes this hard to believe.

If you have seen children's cartoons like Billy and Mandy or Ed, Ed, and Eddy its hard to come away with any other impression than that we think children are retards who couldn't handle actual plot. So yes, any anime like Naruto or One Piece that is re-tooled for children is going to suck.

well I personly can't stand listening to a show thats not in English. For me the Voices in the Dubs, are the right sounding ones, and listening to the Jap Voices feels wrong, most of them sound like girls anyway.
