Samurai Champloo - Anticlimactic beyond belief

Cowboy Bebop - Lame and way too soon.

Princess Mononoke - The traditional Japanese we-are-in-love-so-we-must-part-for-no-other-reason-then-ending-on-a-downer ending

Escaflowne - Again the traditional Japanese we-are-in-love-so-we-must-part-for-no-other-reason-then-ending-on-a-downer ending

Neon Genesis Evangelion ended terriably. Then they made the End of Evangelion to properly end it and that movie wasn't good at all.

I hope they don't fuck up the Rebuild series ending.

Samurai Champloo, as much as I loved the anime the ending was weak, it would have been much better if both Mugen and Jin died at the end, or at the very least since it ended as it did they should have made a new season or at least a movie or ova, this way it just sort of stops.

Tinity Blood .. really ? .. it just tells you that everything up until now was just a small beginning and the real battle starts now .. but guess what ? .. you'll never see it

King of bandits Jin - a really nice anime but again .. it just ends when you think its just beginning, there's a lot of pointless episodes and just when the story seems to get on track and have an objective it ends

On the contrary, I think the ending came at just the right moment, they'd built Fayes growing sense of isolation up perfectly towards the last 4 episodes, and Spike's ongoing mystery with Julia was the backdrop of the series and had to come along at some point....Jets story development seems to be missing completely from the end of the series I admit...but how is it lame? The ending IS cowboy bebop, thats what it does, thats its style...it burns out at its brightest. Saying the ending was lame is like calling out Shawn Michaels for being a great professional wrestler...

Gurren Lagann (I can't even remember if that was the full name). It just sort of ended. Sure it was climactic, but everything just got too weird too fast in those last two episodes, and we never figure out what happens next.
From what I had been told, I expected more Galaxy Flinging.
Did you even stick around after the credits...? There's another scene after the credits of the last episode. TTGL's ending was brilliant. The entire series is by FAR the best anime ever made. FAAAAAAAAAR, I used to put Cowboy Bebop and FLCL pretty close to each other as the top two, but TTGL blows them away. And PLEASE tell me you watched it subbed. Holy Spiral, the dub was horrible.

As for OP's question: Full Metal Alchemist, the first series. The first series had a terrible ending, and Brotherhood screwed up their beginning because they wanted to rush through the early chapters.

I did enjoy it a lot, and it is one of the best I have seen, I just didn't like the characters that much, apart from Rossiu. And yes, I watched it subbed. The only dubbed anime I would watch is Pokemon, for the nostalgic value and comfort.

I just had a look at that post-credit scene you mention, I'm glad that Rossiu got where he did, and it did wrap up the story nicely. I tend to like epilogues. On the other hand, there was maybe ten minutes of physics-defying galaxy flinging in the whole series, which I had been led to believe was the premise of the show. Silly me.
Well it was pretty much the premise, but that was just the climax. If you think about it, the entire show was like that, just on a smaller scale that built up. And yeah, you should watch the credits :p You may never have known that show had an epilogue if I hadn't mentioned it. I can see why you said the show ended rather suddenly though, since you hadn't. Reminds me of how people always get up to leave the moment the credits start rolling in movies, makes me sad :\

Darker than Black had a somewhat disappointing ending.

Now I want to see animes that have tragic endings.

In what way? I mean I agree that the last battle was kinda lame but the ending itself was kind of good according to me? You think they ended it too fast or all the talking about courage made you think it sucked?
I kinda expected something amazing for the final fight against madness and all I get is her punching him a few times while holding a post card....so yeah disappointing.
Up until that point the fight was good too

I actually loved the ending of Evangelion, it left to interpretation, which I appreciated. I actually consider it one of the endings with a meaning. But it's just my opinion.

Kure-nai, the ending just didn't feel right. It contained a lot of fighting, talking and not much of what I felt had made the show interesting in the first place (interaction between the two main characters). Compared to the emotion of a couple of episodes previously, it just didn't cut it. Also it wasn't really either happy or tragic, rather somewhere in between which just left a "huh?" feeling. Still, it does feel better now than it did at the time...

the main series of rurouni kenshin (with 90-something episodes). the second half of season 3 (the final season) was absolutely insane. feng shui conspiracies, time-stopping warriors from the wind temple, and a whole host of craziness. up until that point, things stayed reasonable and awesome. suddenly, things took a turn for the worst. ruined my favourite anime...

That was the point of the show. The entire plot was meant to be representative of a spiral or one of those drill bits. It started off very slowly. Almost claustrophobic. Then it picks up speed and the whole situation gets wider and more convoluted. Then the climax is supposed to be a mishmash of ridiculous battles and unbelievable upgrades. Attempting to be so wide in scale that it borders on the stupid.

I think it worked quite well.
Someone has to. Someone outside of /b/ I mean. I thought Samurai Champloo ending could've been better. Just kill the bad guys, survive our RIDICULOUSLY life-threatening wounds, and walk off into three perfectly straight paths? Yeah alright...

I loved it too. After all, how is a symbolic story about the extiction of humanity supposed to end?

OT: Gurren Lagann and Mahoromatic. I didn't really like these shows at all, but their endings made them even worse, especially Mahoromatic since the ending must've been drawn out of a lottery at the local laughing academy.
