Try Bartimeaus (unsure of spelling) Trilogy. First book is Amulet of Samarkand.
I love those books but the end of the last one sucks.

Fight Club changed my life, so I will never stop mentioning that glorious book in these threads.

The Dune series is the best Sci-Fi book series ever
Orwell is great in 1984 and Animal Farm
I've heard Vonnegut is good
the Bartimeaus trilogy is at least entertaining

The Elric Saga by Michael Moorecock:

"Despairingly, sometimes, I seek the comfort of a benign God... My mind goes out, lying at night, searching through black barreness for something-anything-which will take me to it, warm me, protect me, tell me that there is order in the chaotic tumble of the universe; that it is consistent, this precision of the planets, not simply a brief, bright spark of sanity in an eternity of malevolent anarchy." - Elric of Melnibone

"Catcher in the Rye" I enjoyed quite a lot and it was a lot about "phoneys" though and how some people are just so fake.

It was great to read you should try it I also thought "Animal Farm" was good.

The Night Country by Stewart O'Nan.

Made me think about... well, life in general.
But also about how fleeting it can be, about death and memories of the dead.

The Lord of the Rings trilogy + The Hobbit. Loved those books.

Haven't read The Silmarillion or Unfinished Tales yet.

Beau Geste by P.C Wren

My Grandfather read it to my Father when he was 10 and my dad did the same for me. Probably my favourite book.
