So... I am looking for good, dark, epic metal. You know, like Agalloch, Type 0 Negative, Ulver (mainly just Bergtatt Ulver), Pallbearer, Reverend Bizarre, viking-era Bathory, Immortal, and such. Preferably with vocals on the cleaner side, or at the very least some clean vocals interspersed with death-growls/shrieks. Tendencies towards melody is also a plus.

And please, because I know someone is going to post them, no Emperor. Thanks. :p

Conan is a really good band, way heavy. Ahab, Solstice, Electric Wizard, Atlantean Kodex. My buddy's band Cromlech just put out this awesome album that fits with what you're looking for too. http://cromlechdoom.bandcamp.com/

How about Ahab? They're a pretty awesome doom metal band that err on the side of the melodic. Huge sounding production and a mix of clean and harsh vocals.

S'good shit.

Could also try Arch Nemesis (not to be confused with Arch Enemy) who are often labelled as "dark power metal."

Not sure if this would be your style but:
Or
or
Although I am not sure if that is as melodic as you might like. :)
I lean towards speed moreso than melody though so you probably don't want to hear my favorites :p

Not exactly dark metal but it's pretty awesome instrumental work:

Also there's a load of really good undiscovered metal on jamendo.com that is legally free to download. About half my metal comes from there these days..

One of the most underrated bands. I love that they're epic without being fantasy/mythology themed (not that I dislike those themes, I'm just saying it's refreshing). The vocals are a mix of clean and harsh, with a bit of Sean Connery "sh" thrown in. Seriously.
