Guild Wars and Age of Conan are simply amazing.

If it wasn't for the crappy company that made/runs the game (Funcom), I'd still be playing it, they banned me for no apparent reason, even though I paid a subscription month. I'm still waiting for a response from them.

Also, DDO & Lotro are great too. I miss AoC ='(

There is the original Guild Wars. It's not as awesome as GW2, but it's well worth a play. The initial investment is far smaller now, with the Complete Collection (containing all four expansions) retailing around $40-$60 USD. (plus bonus treasure in GW2!) As always, no sub fees.
Problem is that the GW user-base (from what I've seen recently, at least) is almost entirely dead.
You think so? I'm always running into new players and picking up PUGs. Plus the European servers are often full of RP players, especially around Lion's Arch. They're always good for some fun. Maybe you need a new/better Guild... or some new friends [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/groups/view/Guild-Wars]. (heh) Also, the PvP games/tournaments are still thriving. That was one of GW's major draws, apparently.
I think the steam deals recently have boosted the ranks a bit. What I have noticed is more French people not knowing what to do in DoA. ... No offense, just the language barrier doesn't help the situation.

OP: I played Requiem because I was yearning for some blood in an mmo (sorry GW1 D:)

Final Fantasy 14 doesn't have any monthly fees at the moment and it's only £5. It's also currently undergoing a huge transformation, quite a lot of stuff was adding recently and they're looking to completely re-vamp the battle system, add chocobo mounts, achievements, dungeons, an Ifrit battle and tons more. It's definitely worth looking into.

Other than that, League of Legends is great. It's not an RPG, but it's free to play and very satisfying if you have 2 other friends to play with. Every other game has been mentioned. I do warn you though, don't expect the full experience if you're playing a FTP MMO, so many completely fuck you over by making real life disposable income the deciding factor in who wins.

It would probably be DDO. There aren't really many... 'good' MMOs IMO.

I guess you could play runescape as well.

Or if you are looking for a WoW clone, you can always play Allods online.
