It's no secret that we ***** constantly about games with horrible DRM that still cost money and can be taken from you at any time when you payed for it. What about games that do essentially the opposite? What I mean is, do you guys ever take time out to search for good freeware games? I mean I have come across savage 2 and air rivals now, both free mmo games, savage 2 featuring players in a third person WOW mode on the ground, while also having players in a commander role play RTS style. Air rivals is (copy/paste) a three dimensional science fiction MMOGame in which you operate different airframes over the surface of a planet. Conquer the skies, fight your way through exciting missions and defend your home. Found a formation with your comrades and fly into battle together! (end copy paste) Found both of these here http://www.freewaregames.net/ .

What good and/or cool freeware games have you come across in your life as gamers? Could you post links here?

I like the original Cave Story

I would also suggest this as a reference

Guy above me says Cave Story, check that out for sure. Spelunky is a great free game, though it is pretty difficult. Take a look around here: http://db.tigsource.com/ . From that website, the first one that comes to my mind is Gravity Bone, which was great while it lasted, which wasn't for very long.

When I saw the title, I was just gonna point you at sourceforge... but you specifically mean freeware games... the only modern one I have installed at the moment is Alien Swarm... it's pretty damn fun, though.

Desktop Dungeons.

Good, lunchbreak-sized dungeon crawling. Perfectly free.

I'm more of a fan of Abandonware, you know games that used to have large budgets that are now forgotten by the publishers

Star control 2 is free, in the form of the ur quan masters.
along similar lines Exult for Ultima 7 is pretty good.
There's a host of great RM2k games, but only some are self contained and thus truly free.
I remember playing Dink Smallwood many moons back.
Ad Astra is an elite/x3 style freeware game, but I found it a little uh daunting.
Oh, dwarf fortress is fun too for strategy base building types, with a graphics pack it even looks pretty nice.
Hmm.. I believe betrayal at krondor is now free.. and its a pretty good game if you don't mind the ancient graphics.
I'm sure I have played other freeware games these are the ones which leap to mind.

NEStalgia is free to play and a good game. And should be moreso once the upcoming summer updates hit. You -can- get a paid subscription but it's mostly just for cosmetic stuff and its dirt cheap to get a lifetime sub anyways. And the game doesn't lock you out from any content for being a free account anyways.

Go take a look at the trailer on YouTube.
