So, I want my girlfriend to get into games, but she doesn't have too much experience in them except for shit like Diner Dash.

Do not take into account her gender; i just need some good games that anyone believes would be a good starting point for a person. You do not have too many restrictions; any genre (fps, rpg, rts, etc.) any type, any rating; though, the only platforms we have are Xbox 360 and PC.

Thanks in advance for your help.

All games are good for beginners to some extent. But maybe start off with Halo 3. It's bright, colourful, fun and sociable. It might work 'cos it's quite addictive.

For PC, get Portal for her, that's a must. Otherwise, I suppose she could try some indie games like Auditorium (a must) or World of Goo, like hopeneverdies said (above). PC platformers aren't usually that good (although Scarygirl, on this week's Alt+Escape, isn't too bad). Otherwise, I suppose try and introduce her to some of the games you play yourself, and see how she finds them. Hope this helps :D

Any Mario or Zelda game could do as a good starting point. You might wanna specify what systems you have first though as that would be the benchmark for our suggestions.

I love you

ANYWAY, it would be hard to find an easy game for those platforms. If you have any handhealds that you didnt mention, try a pokemon game. Saints Row 2 is fun without being really challenging (even though sometimes I have a little trouble, but not too much). Bioshock is forgiving with its vida (or "vita", i forgot how its spelled) chambers, too. Lastly Jet Set Radio Future is a little too easy, but it presents itself really good, so I think it's fun to play.

I agree. Ninja Gaiden is soooooooo easy.

Heh heh. >_>
I feel bad for a person whose first game is Ninja Gaiden.
They'd probably never play a game again.

COD4
Prince of Persia (new one)

Can't think of anything else, I'm tired.
I played the new Prince of Persia. It seemed alright (this was on 360, by the way), but the controls were too awkward and really annoying. It wasn't exactly the best gameplay in the world, so I personally wouldn't recommend it, but each to his/her own, I suppose...

Half-Life. Or any FPS or 3rd person game with a trainer really.

Guys don't seem to realize, most girls aren't really that different from us, particularly in the sense that they don't want to look dumb playing a game. If a person ever likes action movies, they probably would enjoy a FPS; the question is, will they become too frustrated by learning the controls and how to play?

True story: My at the time girlfriend (now wife) got irritated at me for staying up too late playing Half-Life and Unreal. But I noticed that she would watch me while I was playing, clearly interested. So I showed her the trainer in HL, and had her set the game to 'Easy' and left her alone. {That's a big deal, really. Put her on the computer and then leave the room. Otherwise it is quite likely that they'll get 'performance anxiety')

Now, she is a kick-ass gamer. As I type this, she's in Ulduar with her guild in WoW, getting server-first bosskills. Not even fucking joking about that.

Speaking of which... If you think a MMORPGuh is more her speed, I can only provide this advice: Level with her, don't powerlevel her. Let HER control the pace you move at, and what you do. Nothing says "hamster on a wheel" more than being dragged around by somebody else. Yes, you can make suggestions based upon your experience, but remember that the sense of wonder that will really get her engaged and invested in the game will only result from the sense of personal discovery. If you try to do the 'guided tour' of Azeroth (or whichever one you choose), you're going to leech that out of the experience.
