Like say, Dead Space, or Gears of War.
Totally agree, also some call of duty multiplayer :)

Any of the GTA's. And a peaceful RPG like skyrim. If i were you i would refrain from online shooters. they will piss you off.

One of my favourite plans:

1: Open L4D2's Dark Carnival on Easy.
2: Get a pump action shotgun and a guitar. An AK47 is cool too.
3: Put on Judas Priest, preferably Painkiller.
4: Activate the carousal event and camp in front of the safe room.
5: Murder tons and tons of zombies until you're calmed down.

So damned effective.

Other games that make me pretty Zen:

- The Settlers: Rise of an Empire. Especially if you don't bother with combat, it's just so relaxed to see your city grow and watch all those chubby little people work for you.

- WoW. Yeah, I found it very destressing when I played that casually. Just strolling around in that beautiful world, listening to that gorgeous music, taking in the sights. Good times.

- Any crowd fighter like Dynasty Warriors or Sengoku Basara. They speak for themselves.

- Any shoot 'em up like Painkiller or Serious Same. They're like a shooter version of crowd fighters.

- LocoRoco. It's just so damned happy.

- Simcity 3000. Smooth jazz and no-pressure gameplay. Golden combination.

Saints Row 2 on easy mode with a shit load of cheats on. You're welcome
Especially in combination with Ezzzy 105. So many giggles.

Riding around Liberty City on one of TLAD's choppers while listening to Liberty Rock Radio is awfully relaxing.

Play Kirby's Epic yarn. That game is so damn cutesy and fun , that there is no way you can feel stressed and/or unhappy playing that . It just a high concentration of joy . I SWEAR . Every time i am in a bad mood i play that game and it cheers me right up .

The music, the aesthetics, the gameplay, EVERYTHING screams happy happy joy joy . You'll feel great .
In that category Super Mario Sunshine is a great one as well. I mean:
So totally my favourite Mario game.

I find the Prototype games are good for this. You're basically a human sized hulk monster ripping your way through anything that gets in your way. Including tanks, APC's and Helicopters. Puny human get in your way? EAT THEM! Puny tank try to stop you? SMASH IT! Puny god talk down to you? Oh wait, sorry, that was in the Avengers.

If you like violence as stress relief, there really is nothing like it.

That said, I prefer humor for my stress relief as it gets my mind off it far better. Unfortunately I don't own many funny games, so I usually grab a Pratchett book instead.

My favorite stress reliever is a game called AAAAaaaaAAAAaaaaAAAA a reckless disregard for gravity. It is so funny and stupid that it makes you instantly happy. The gameplay isn't really stress-relieving. but the humour makes everything better. For instance the story is about how in the future massive cities fall out of the sky. and poeple decided that they should basejump off the cities. it's awesome, if a bit short.

I usually just get on Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and fool around.
For me it's San Andreas, those are the kinds of games you can just go nuts in.

Burnout Revenge is also a great stress reliever (especially of driving stress) with things like traffic attack and crash junctions.

Postal 2 - You can consume some catnip, chop off someone's head with a shovel then proceed to play football with it... you can also pee on people and make them throw up.

Total War, my psyche is more pleased at quantity, and nothing cheers me up like executing a few thousand prisoners >:D

Sometimes I just put on Powerful Pro Yakyuu (japanese cartoonish baseball-game), go into trainging mode and just swing away for 20mins.

Captcha: That hurts ... I guess it might.

The last level of Katamari Damacy where you finally get to pick up the whole city and you grow into the clouds and start grabbing thunder gods and stuff. Take that, planet!

Avoid dark souls and gran turismo 5 if you don't feel like throwing a controller through your screen. To relax I'd suggest skyrim, fallout: nv or katamari damacy. :)

I would suggest that you stay away from any game with a timed sequence. Even typing that phrase has raised my blood-pressure. Any of the LEGO games or Morrowind, just for the shear ability to walk around and admire the beautiful scenery with little to no intrusion.

You ever play a halo game on easy? I have played 1 through 3 on that difficulty, and it's fun. I mean, really fun. Like, walk up to an alien and bash it's brains in with your rifle butt before picking up a rocket launcher to destroy 2 enemy alien tanks while some enemies make jokes about it fun. And you know what? I'm not going to feel guilty for playing it or any related game anymore. Fuck the whole "Shooter fans are stupid because they like shooters" crowd.
