Good games with NO replay value

GUN.

Remember that game? It was a sandbox third person cowboy game developed by the makers of Tony Hawk, and when it came out, it was actually pretty good. The shooting was good, the gameplay was tight, the lands were varied, and the only real problems with it were that the map was quite small and that the story moved far too fast for its own good. But all in all, it was good. The first time.

I recently tried to replay it, and it's almost impossible. Despite being a sandbox game, it's depressingly linear, and there really isn't as much to do as it seemed the first time.
Oh my god yes! The game was awesome to play through and I actually enjoyed playing it again using the old weapons. But that was the only reason. It was way too linear for it's own good and once it was done there was nothing left to do.

So yeah, Assassins Creed 2. Finished it all with all acheivements, full village, all weapons and all missions done and there was nothing left to do. No new choices when you started again.

Half Life 2. Before acheivements.
Indeed. It's far too chokingly linear to be replayable. On the flip side, however, the well-designed and carefully polished scripted events do make it a marvellous experience on the first play. Much the same can be said of the original HL, for that matter.

I've seen it at least 20 times in this topic, but it's true: Heavy Rain. It's like watching a good movie 10 times, but just with minutes 10-100 changed every time: The begining and end stay the same...

I always feel like this: That's the killer. There he is. Get him. FFS! WHERE'S THE "KILL KILLER" OPTION?

Can't help it...

Batman Arkham Asylum.
I wanna go back and play that again, the stealth in it was so much fun. My pick for this thread is Any old school game. Once I've played it, I kind of loose all my excitment over those games.

This is why I love fighting games like Street Fighter and Marvel vs Capcom 2.
Games like that almost never get boring once you finish through the main story (Considering there is one) I never get tired of playing games like that (Unless it's one of them days.), and soon I'm gonna get me Blazblue: Calamity Trigger. Does anybody else have this game? If so, what is it like?
Best fighting game ever. But wait until July 27th. You can then get Blazblue: Continuum Shift which is superior.

OT: Brutal Legend. After the incredibly short main story I had no reason to pick it up again.

BlazBlue is one of the best games I have played, guy. It always feels balanced, the characters all have so much personality and the game mechanics work very well too. The music is awesome and the story blew my mind. It's just plain fun. Especially offline with some friends. Continuum Shift comes out this month, very soon. So hopefully CT won't be that expensive for you.
The characters in that game are pretty awesome, but the sheer lack thereof characters really hurts it, in my opinion. 10 characters (or 12, or whatever it was) just isn't enough for a fighting game anymore. I suppose that's what makes the game so solid though because it doesn't spread itself too thin...
But the characters aren't clones of each other and that's the big thing. I'd prefer a few characters that all play completely differently as opposed to a large roster that's mostly the same. Besides, Continuum Shift is adding 5 more characters (3 Via DLC which is a huge step forward for fighting games). Calamity Trigger was the first Blazblue, the roster will grow and, thankfully, every character will remain unique.

Well, I definitely agree with Heavy Rain. I've replayed a couple of chapters here and there but I never have any motivation to go through and play the whole game. I think the only thing that could make me do that is if I was a trophy-whore, but I'm not. I still keep the game though because it was that good.

I'm going to throw a really surprising one out: Mass Effect 2.

I don't know why, I played Mass Effect 1 a few times over, but I just can't bring myself to play Mass Effect 2 over again. I get half way through and then just get bored and move on to another game. Despite the large amount of content, it's very very linear, and you can go through most of the conversation options in your first go. I went Paragon the first time, so the only thing there is for me in a second playthrough are some Renegade actions/lines of dialogue.

There really is surprisingly low replay value in that game, at least for me. But it was a fantastic 40 hour first play through, no doubt.
I agree - I replayed some of it for achievements, but the thing stopping me getting the insanity achievement isn't the length or the difficulty, but the fact I'd have to replay a story I already know. Maybe just before ME3 comes out, I'll be able to replay it.

But this happens to me with any story driven game. The fact I interact with it, maybe even change it slightly, just means that it stays with me better, making replays almost impossible.

I play 99,5% of every game twice (single player). Games are too expensive to only play once through, especially with the modern graphics engines these days, I can look for an hour at The Pit of Tartarus in GoWIII.

I'll wait a few years for the roster to grow. I looked at the roster for Continuum Shift and is still didn't have enough for my liking. I guess games like Tekken Tag and Marvel Vs Capcom 2 kind of spoiled me with the huge rosters, even if some characters were clones of another. I know the fact that they avoided that in BlazBlue sets it apart from the rest though. I just couldn't help but find it a little lack luster.

"Betrapped", a bizarre minesweeper/Agatha Christie cross, was awesome the first time. Best mystery I've ever played.

But it has the same problem as Heavy Rain or any Agatha Christie novel - the villain doesn't change.

Dragon Age: Origins, few reasons:
1) My first playthrough was very thorough, leaving very little story to be interested in as the side quests were pretty boring (and I did loads on the first playthrough anyway). Since the story is the main fun part of DA: O for me (not that combat and stuff was bad, I really, really enjoyed it, but not enough to make me go through a game that long again).

2) I did try to ignore the above reason and give it another go, but since the first playthrough was with a Mage and the second I tried with a Rogue... it didn't go so well - Rogues are very underpowered in DA: O, especially near the beginning and the Mage is by far the strongest and most flexible class, with its only weakness that it needs a Warrior tank, but those were pretty common in companions.

3) This is also the justification for the game not needing replay value - the first playthrough took me a while. I felt the duration was "the other kind of perfect" - it was just slightly longer than the perfect duration would be, but on the good side, that didn't leave me with the feeling of "oh if only the game was longer".

Ya me to, I beat the first one at least 5 or 6 times, but when I try to go through the second one again I just get really bored. Pretty much any game that is completly story driven with absolutly no choices that involve you is hard for me to go back through again.

Super Mario Galaxy.

For some reason, once I collected all the Stars, I had no intention of ever getting them again. Maybe it's because the game forces you to collect them twice each anyway, first as Mario and then Luigi.

Actually you might not have to wait long. There are rumors that the third game will be the last one. Can't say I understand your philosophy as I will always prefer different characters to re-skins but I'll respect it.

Probably Bioshock.

I would know what would come around the next bend and it didn't seem like it would be that different. Still thought it was a good game though

Plants Vs Zombies. I love that game and all the mini games and stuff, but it was so hard to go through it again to unlock the Yeti Zombie achievement. After the first time it is just hard to play because it is pretty much the same strategy constantly...
Hard to agree with Plants Vs. Zombies. Playing it again is pretty alright because you're limited to what plants you can use on the second run through so it can get interesting, still pretty easy however. I could personally say any Grand Theft Auto game. Love em' all, can never pick them up after I've gotten through the story and side missions.

Assassin's Creed. The first one. I think it's an okay game, and I basically love just running all around the city without a care in the world, but I wouldn't want to replay through all of those shitty repetitive side-missions again.
The first one?

Second one too. I loved it but after I beat it and unlocked EVERYTHING I kinda thought "That was awesome!! I never want to do it again!!!"
