I've seen people ask on here often enough 'whats a good game to play?' and everyone gives them the same 10 games. Halo, Half-Life, Portal, Shadow of Colossus gets mentioned quite a bit which is kind of odd. It's like the only games you people play are the ones that make it to top-10 most requested fags on Gamefaq. I want to ask this question but at the same time I dont want to because then 90% of you will show just how new(b?) they are when it comes to the gaming scene. The only games you people ever play are the ones that had commercials on TV on every channel or in every gaming magazine from here to hell?

But, nothing ventured nothing gained.

I'm going to ask you Escapist. Take a GOOD LOOK at your library, I mean the whole library. Dont stop with current consoles. If all you have is Fallout 3, GTA4 or Madden, stop right there because I've already played it all. Go back, 10 years, 15 years, go back to before I even existed if you have to but for the love of god dont name a game the next poster would know about. This doesn't mean find the most obscure game you can think of. I'm not going to play the majority of japanese games because I'm TIRED OF THEM. If its not Halo its Pokemon. I know standard Japanese conventions like the back of my hand, people at TVTROUPES have a list of 300 odd things you will find in every Japanese game which is sad because of how true it is. I'm tired of the lead wearing goggles and wearing blue or red, tired of him ending up with his childhood friend which is kind of creepy because in America someone like that would be looked upon more like a sister. Over here we dont call our girlfriends sister. Every friggen hero over there is Grade-A smart, and excels in gym class like he's the god of sport. That's...that's great, that's just great Japan. That's cool and all that those are your whip-him-til'-he-gets-it-right values but 15 year old school boys aren't who I'll turn to when the world ends. Grade-As don't mean attractive and capable in the real world.

What's a good game Escapist? "You know what was a good game that didn't get enough spot light? Einhander" "Omg I loved that game!" "Privateer is a pretty cool guy, eh kills all the kilrathi and doesn't afraid of anything."

TL:DR; What's a good game that isn't celebrity levels of known? Halo, Half-Life, Fallout, Madden, GTA4, and anything pushing obnoxious and trite Japanese values are out.

The game I've dedicated my life to the most is Rockband 2, I always come back to that game. But if your not into that type of game or you think it should be grouped with Halo and stuff I had a shit load of fun on Resident Evil 5, lots of commercials but I'm probably the only one on my friends list that still plays that game. Also if you don't count thaaaaat I would say Ghost Recon Advance Warfighter 2, again lots of commercials but it was pretty fun and people don't play it that often. We have short attention spans.

Ahhh, I forgot about Red Dead Rvolver. That game sucked up my early middle school years.

As for older games...Any of the 2-D Sonics, Vectorman, Golden Axe, Ranger X. Those are (or should be) classics. Personally, if you're thinking of something a bit newer, try the Fire Emblem games. I'd recommend 6 or 7, but 8 was good too. Don't play the gamecube or Wii ones until you've done those...and anything 5 and before is just frustrating compared to 6, 7, and 8. If you're thinking PC gaming...Command and Conquer games are good. Play the first two Red Alerts, Tiberian Sun, and Generals. C&C 3 and Red Alert 3 kinda killed the series. *shamed* Metal Gear Solid Twin Snakes was excellent. Try the Tales games...like Tales of Symphonia for example. Hopefully those are enough to keep you busy. When you finish those, ask again. ;)

Edit: Oh, and Beyond Good and Evil was really good too...

Well Western games are just as stereotypical as Japanese and they are games... you know not supposed to be realistic.

Anyway try and go back when games stil ran under Win 85. Try Little big adventure 2 or Toonstruck. Pop in a game like MDK or Blade runner or play the 2 early oddworld games for the PSone. And Dispite the wacky controls over the series I love the legacy of Kain quintoligy.
Maybe I also Love Donald duck in cold shadow for the PC and Severance: blade of darkness.
There are so many great games lost in time and forgotten by those graphic whoring media hypes.
I for instant love the most part of capcoms arcade library.
So go back to the roots when graphics were limited and creativity made the game.
And as for new titles try Trine It's Awesome.

The first two fallout games are always great, compared to that shit fallout 3.
Baldur's gate 2.
Vampire the masquerade: bloodlines.
Mechwarrior 2 and Mechwarrior 2: mercenaries.
Any total war game.
Carmegeddon.
Monkey island.
Jagged alliance 2.
Neverwinter nights 2 isn't bad.

It's terrible that there really haven't been a lot of great games released within the last 5 years.

Kingdom Hearts, Final Fantasy, Twisted Metal, Mech Warrior, Anything that's basically DnD are big names. Played em, got lots of good suggestions tho, thanks guys.

Indigoman, you might wanna reread the first post, almost all of those games are big names that everyone has most likely played to death. (Doesn't make them bad, just means I've, and most everyone else has, already played them)

What system is Red Dead Revolver?

Everything made by Bioware.
Shining Force 1 & 2 if you can get your hands on them.
