I recently played Braid and Limbo and i loved every minute of it. I also been a huge fan of the Portal games. What other games do you recommend that use a gameplay as original as my example? thx

Amnesia is original... It is also terrifying. I also enjoyed God of Thunder which is an old JavaScript game.

I think when you say intelligent you need to clarify on that a bit more. I know you said original gameplay but that could also have a bunch of different connotations. I would say CoD4. Not on console though. CoD4 PC promod is still currently the best multiplayer experience I can think of by far.

Because CoD4 is famed for it's intelligent user base of 12 year old screaming children.

In all honesty, the most intelligent CoD would be black ops, as it's got an okay story with a really, really good psychological element... But even that's borderline.

If you wanted an intelligent game then you should look for games that have a message. Bioshock is one, as it makes a lot of really interesting geopolitical points that really echo true because of the cold war. It's a really smart and intelligent message, but the game doesn't really carry that through.

On the flipside, Amnesia is a incredibly smartly made game, but the story is... questionable. I dunno, I just hate amnesia stories, I think they're lazy.

... It may be a long shot, but if you're into this sort of thing, try some anime games, they are hard to come by, but imo they are worth it. Always a good story. Not so much gameplay, as they are mostly point and click. But very good stories.

CoD4? Really? Are you trolling me? I asked for games with some innovative gameplay like the Portal gun, the Time bending ability of Braid and you're proposing the most generic game ever of shoot stuff with guns? I play CoD don't get me wrong but, it's more of a "I don't want to think just kill stuff game". That the opposite of what I asked....

The Witcher is a pretty amazing RPG on PC. So is S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
But be patient with both games. They start kinda slow, but once you get past the low beginning, you're in for a treat. Both games offer more than 100 hours of gameplay. At least they did for me. The thing about The Witcher is that it does morality unlike any other RPG I've played. There are no good and bad choices, just consequences, and what you consider to be the lesser evil. And choices aren't obvious either. You just do what you think is best. Which is how it works in real life. Also, a bit older, but if you haven't played Mafia 1, you should. 2k Czech managed to combine total realism and fun into a singularity. An amazing accomplishment. No one else knows how to do that. And it has a very good story.

The Phoenix Wright series. Good puzzles, nice bit of logical thinking. The later games even bring up some questions about the legal system. Nothing too deep or thought provoking, but a nice, fun series. A little wacky, but doesn't take away from the entertainment.

Not too deep, but its pretty interesting and the humour is brilliant I swear I haven't laughed that much at a game in AGES

I'd heartily recommend the Professor Layton series, although I expect you weren't so much asking for puzzle games as "games which have interesting/clever gameplay features".

But most people's lives would be improved by playing the Professor Layton games.

I'd say give Catherine a shot. The game's very well written in my opinion. The gameplay is smart and ties into the story nicely. It brings up a lot of interesting questions. Also it has a totally unique artistic style (among games, at least).

I just finished The Darkness for the first time, and that game has a killer story. The mechanics of it are relatively standard shooter fare, but there are some unique features that really drew me into the protagonist character and made me understand his internal conflicts.

Some pretty obvious suggestions: Bastion and From Dust. Bastion, in my opinion, suffers from having this kind of accessory hack-n-slash gameplay that doesn't always add much to the story, but it is a good experience anyway. From Dust has some frustrating implementation problems that keep it from being great, but I still loved it.

Have you played many indie games? Jason Rohrer did some pretty interesting stuff, I'd recommend Gravitation especially. Messhof's games are cool, Randy Balma: Municipal Abortionist was one of my favorites. Psychosomnium by Cactus was good. These are all extremely short, minimalist games, unfortunately. I'd love to see more recommendations for full-length, professional quality games.

PC games "The Void" and "Pathologic" are both intelligent games, but they depend on your tolerance for unfair difficulty (I don't mean that in the "it's hard so that's not fair" sense, as in "You are going to die in 5 levels for not knowing fundamental rules about this world which we did not explain to you until it was too late."

HOWEVER, both are incredible games one way or another, Void is a beautiful, artistic experience which is just a joy to let wash over you despite its crippling gameplay (the devs even admitted it was too hard and released a set of cheats for it :p) while Pathologic can best be desrcibed as a viral outbreak simulator. You're placed into a dying town with prices of food seemingly on the rise everyday to the point where you'll often be forced to sell your gun to buy food/ pills to fight off infection. It's a bleak game and should not be played if you're easily depressed, because when I finished I was physically and emotionally drained, but it is nonetheless utterly original and unique.

Bioshock?
Bioshock is more of a dumbed-down System Shock 2.

Which, by the way, I'd recommend, along with Shadow Of The Colossus, Half-Life, any Fallout that isn't 3, and Psychonauts.

Honestly.. you'd have to go to the army-based type of games, not FPS.
Strategy kind,
Command & Conquer (any)
STRONGHOLD (any) <-- highly recommend
TOTAL WAR (any) My favourite is SHOGUN, cause I love Ninjas ^_^
STAR CRAFT (any) More about mind fucking ones opponent
Civilization (any) <--- Biiiig time consumer
AGE of EMPIRES (any) My favourite is III, WAR CHIEFS Expansion.. I love 'em natives

Beating that... just play any SIMS game

FPS are for tools
