Hey guys going to host another lan party, how ever last time we were lacking in games. I have some spending money so I would like to hear all suggestions for lan games, free or not.

Preferred genres

RPG
RTS
FPS
TPS

and anything else you feel would be good. Remember it needs to be playable on lan.

So list your favorite LAN pc games please and thank you!

Starcraft/Starcraft: Brood War and Warcraft 3/Warcraft 3:Frozen Throne are both amazing RTS games.

MechWarrior 3, MechWarrior 4 (Vengeance and Mercenary) old but immensely fun to play over a LAN with friends. Especially if you like using teamwork to win and are not into the whole 'twitch fest' that has become the modern FPS.

Warcraft 3 was what we spent most of our time on a few years ago. Sooooooo many maps for it, and TDs just eat time. AvP II has a good mod for it which was bundles of fun... can't remember its name. Played some CoH a bit, none of us were good enough to make it really interesting but hey, it certainly had potential. HL2 death match rocks.

Eh, most of the games I last played on LAN are older ones - I don't really know which of the current games support LAN, seems almost a dying trend o.0

Danke.

I've added these to my little list.

Nexuiz is pretty damn fun for lan as well (also looks very nice for a free indie game)

Of course.
You do have to buy them though, but you can get the battle chest (Containing the game and expansion) relatively cheap these days.

The Blizzard RTS games as have already been mentioned. At LANs, other games that seem to have gone over well were Counter-Strike, SWAT 4 (if you're into co-op and slower-pace), DotA/one of its clones.

always whem me and my friends LAN we play CoD2 and we always have a blast though we do have an ocasional round of Left 4 Dead

when it comes to RTS's we play Warcraft 3

and when we want to drive we most often play flat-out

we always have fun with these games an it's always pretty competitive between us

Forgot about CoD2, that's another good one.

Armagedatron (its free)
Counter Strike: Source/Half Life 2 (plus the billions of mods they have)
TF2 (prop hunt is especially fun at LANs)
League of Legends is good and free (though requires internet to play - no local mode)

You'll need someone with a beefy machine or a spare one to run as the server for any of the valve stuff.

3 minutes? It was 2 hours. What are you on about?

Also thank you for the reccommendation and I'm hoping for more action based reccommondations now such as the prementioned Swat 4 one from which is added to the list.

Neverwinter Nights 1 for RPG, Ghost Recon (original) for FPS Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 for a more modern version (a crappy Rainbow Six game but still a good cover based shooter) and Fallout Tactics for a semi RTS (again a crappy Fallout game but a a fun game nonetheless).

Ohhhhhmygod so much fun twitchy fun with as many players as you want

If you want 4 player co-op, you can't go wrong with Magicka either.
