So I just got into manga litereally a week ago and would appreciate it if the fine people on the Escapist would put a few titles out there for a budding enthusiast to enjoy.

cool with any kind of genre,
but know that I am a man and I tend to prefer stuff that border's on the strange and obscure and aestheticly violent.

edit: when I mean aesthetic violence I mean like violence with class, like if someone came out with a manga equivalent to A Clockwork Orange, Kill Bill or Fight Club or something.

I always try and recommend Ranma 1/2, even if people never read it...

Other than that, Gantz might appeal to you.

EDIT: DAMN NINJAS!

Onani Master Kurosawa Onani Master Kurosawa Onani Master Kurosawa Onani Master Kurosawa Onani Master Kurosawa Onani Master Kurosawa Onani Master Kurosawa Onani Master Kurosawa

it starts out as a comedy with some paralels to deathnote and then it goes all crazy social commentary ish

read that shit

if you want strange obscure and aesthetic violence let me recommend Goth. That sounds right up your alley. Think Scooby Doo except the kids doing the investigating are getting off on it a bit.

Make that getting off on it a lot. Like, proper sick fascination with the killer. Oh god Goth is such a badass manga I don't want to ruin anything for you.

Ushio and Tora is a great manga, though it was never made into books so you'll have to read it online.

Monster isn't bad either.

Scott Pilgrim?

Or if you like violence "High School of the Dead" started out pretty good but I lost interest about half way through. Also "Dead Man Wonderland" was pretty graphic but I didn't get very far in it before I was taken off of MangaFox. I also really liked Soul Eater and Black Cat.

Train Man is pretty good. Its only three volumes and a touching romance story type of thing. I recommend it because its good to take a break from all the blood and violence every now and then.

Claymore, Zombie Loan, Mahou Negima Sensei has cool fights, but, it's got a lot of ecchi (sort of) and drama stuff.

EDIT: Kurohime is pretty good too.

Rurouni Kenshin is probably the best, besides that I'd say Bokurano.

While this may seem mainstream, I highly recomend it, Death Note. If you're looking for something to work the mind and keep you on pins and needles every step of the way, go for this.
