Has anyone ever heard a good metal cover that subsequently got you into the band that DID the cover? (for the record, i wanna keep this strictly in the metal scene, or at least try to, but it IS the internet, so what am i gonna do? take you to internet court?)
most recently it was Vader for me:

oh, and this

The cover of White Rabbit (Jefferson Airplane) by Sanctuary got me into them. Also their covers of Metallica songs are how I first heard about Apocalyptica.

Let's see Cradle of Filth (not a huge fan of them) did a pretty good cover of Sabbat's "For Those Who Died", Five Finger Death Punch covered Bad Company's "Bad Company", In This Moment did a pretty kick ass version of "Call Me" by Blondie. Oh and don't forget Depeche Mode's "Stripped" as done by Rammstein.

Thats just off the top of my head

Well I really like In Flames cover of "Everything Counts". And this is coming from a big Depeche Mode fan. I like both versions alot.

Yeah in listening to it, it's obvious he's not a master of the english language and it's a little scary

I'm sorry for posting twice but this is a completely different song

"Over the hills and far away" was a Gary Moore song, and it was pretty cool.
<youtube=iyJEytBlp1I>

and then it was covered by NightWish and got EPIC!

Well I just listened to it and... meh I don't really like Rammstein's version. Music is good but the singing is... off. I feel like Stripped could be made into a sweet metal song, but Rammstein didn't do it correctly. I've listened to a couple other songs of theirs and I would have liked it if they did it more in their usual style, but I don't really think they should have tried to do it slower like the original. Not to say its bad, just not (currently) to my taste. I'll listen to it a bit more, it might grow on me. Thanks for mentioning it though, I might have found another song to add to my collection.

Nightwish is already my favorite band :) i actually discovered them because of the planet hell song that someone put on a runescape battle where a guy did a glitch where he could kill people :D

I'll be honest I only listen to it for shits and giggles due to the way he sings it

Territory - Sepultura covered by BTBAM

They did a whole album of eclectic covers (including Metallica, The Eurythmics, Motley Crue & Pantera) but this is the one I like their version of the most in comparison to the original.

I could not agree more with that.

You folks may like this, you may not. I rather enjoyed it.

Also

in the same vein. This one's a bit iffy for me. I like the atmosphere and the singing, but the drumming bugs me for some reason.
