Good modern 2D games

Are there any indie 2d rpgs? Really need a game that I can play for some time. Like SPAZ or Notrium for example. Oh I just remember Iji.

Fez is the best 2D I have played in a very long time, but its only available on xbox live arcade atm.
Worms Armageddon has always been a good time waster.

If you like SPAZ you should check out Starfarer. It's very similar to SPAZ in that it's a top-down space game but I would say it has more of a focus on strategy than SPAZ does.

OT: I have been told by many people that FTL is excellent. Same with the Avernum games. The Binding of Isaac is really good too, and I can confirm that.

EDIT: What the hell was I thinking forgetting about Cave Story.
Limbo was fun, but I kinda want some replay value.

I haven't played SPAZ or Notrium but the Avernum games are pretty fun, modern 2D RPGs. They're not gonna blow you away, but they're decent.

Yes it's a remake of a Sega Mega Drive game, but even after 18 years it's still awesome.

Imo the cream of the crop is Yotsubane's Crimson Clover

CAVE do the best modern shmups but you need a 360 although you can play their older stuff on MAME.

Best 2d games on Earth are by Vanillaware, but sadly they only make them for consoles.
One of the few regrets I still have with ditching mine. Would still be playing Odin Sphere or Masamune.
