Good modern European music (BESIDES straightforward metal).

Typically I begin most of my mornings by throwing on some coffee, jumping on youtube, and listening to many of my favorite bands before I go about my day. Moreso than often this pertains to metal (Opeth, Falconer, My Dying Bride, Riverside).

It wasn't until I discovered the genius of Armin Van Buuren that I said "You know, I would like to broaden my musical horizons here..". Don't get me wrong I am sure there are many, many bad bands over there as well. However, if many of you from the Old Country could do me a favor and throw me a few artist names that America by no means has any knowledge of yet (youtube fame or otherwise) it would be mostly appreciated.

As a side note, I would heavily recommend Riverside to anyone. Great modern rock from Poland with an excellent use of elements.

I have no idea if you're being sarcastic here... but I was going to seriously suggest Basshunter. I don't think people really give him a fair chance, he's very good at what he does and it's all just upbeat and harmless. This is his best IMO [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i0LVjvdU3ws] (and, in fact, my favourite song overall of last year). You'll either love it or hate it, but at least listen with an open mind. A lot of people automatically write it off for some reason.

Phoenix is a French alt pop/rock band whose latest album Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix I find to be in-fucking-credible. Here's 1901 [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q4MXFOMpVIw] and Lisztomania [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4BJDNw7o6so].

Click Click Decker [http://www.myspace.com/clickclickdecker] is the main project of Kevin Hamann, a German singer/songwriter. With Click, he has a somewhat weird, lo-fi indie rock thing going on. Enjoy Haendedruck am Wendepunkt [http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoid=54214093]

Hamann is also involved in Bratze [http://www.myspace.com/bratzebratze], which is an electro trash/punk duo.

More from Germany, Kettcar [http://www.myspace.com/kettcar] is a Rock/Pop-Band from Hamburg; they got somewhat popular thanks to songs like 48 Stunden [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KeGKFw2E7vE] and Landungsbruecken raus [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BA5qvAobkCw&feature=related]. Didn't like their new album much, though.

I also enjoy Olli Schulz & Der Hund Marie [http://www.myspace.com/ollischulz].

The 1990s [http//www.myspace.com/1990sband] from Britain also have some catchy [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tjvko99xkwk] tunes [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-lFjS2yEpxU&feature=related], if you're into that sort of danceable brit rock thing.

Why has nobody mentioned Gogol Bordello?
Balkan Gypsy punk. Great stuff. And I usually abhor Eastern European things because it's an embarrassing heritage to have [I'm Hungarian].
These guys sort of embrace it and ride it, though. Like some greasy, hairy wave of exuberant punk/polka

Ummm.. The Arctic Monkeys. Yeah, they's awesome. You really can't go wrong with them.

Dan le Sac vs. Scroobius Pip is damn fine stuff too, but you'd probably have to either be into hip-hop, poetry, or light techno to really dig it.
