I got that game for free when I signed up for GOG. I'm not sure why...jamiedf said:although i doubt it is on steam, you should get beneath a steel sky from gog, fantastic little point and click game
i know right? these captchas are evil. they seem to always either be an ad or unintelligible gibberish. its hard enough reading those messed up letters without it being damn gibberish.believer258 said:Steam itself is a point and click adventure game. You almost always finish with a lighter wallet and a whole bunch of nice shiny new gems to play with.
...sorry, OP, I don't really know any but I thought that was fairly clever.
Off-topic: The captcha is an ad? Wait, what kind of evil ************ puts an ad inside the captcha!?
No, one of the features which sets GOG.com apart from it's counterparts like STEAM is that GOG tweak the games to run on new systems. I often recommend against buying older PC games from STEAM for exactly that reason; they sometimes don't work.TrevorGruen said:also thanks to all who reccomended good old games. looks like a great selection. i dont need to download a different OS or anything to play the games tho right?

just finished downloading Beneath a steel sky, and its awesome. took me maybe 3 minutes to make an account, found it gave me some free games, and download it. great reccomendation and i will definitly check out some of the older games. got to love that it even includes digital manuals of the games, so i can understand wth the story and controls are. Great help and thanks to everyone! The Madman said:No, one of the features which sets GOG.com apart from it's counterparts like STEAM is that GOG tweak the games to run on new systems. GOG also doesn't use any sort of UI or platform. You buy the games from their site, receive a link to a download, download, install, enjoy. No hassle at all, no online activation required, nadda. Pay & download! The simplicity is why it's so brilliant.
Personally I'm a fan of the Gabriel Knight series, the Broken Sword series, and The Longest Journey, which I count as one of my all-time favourites. All available on gog. I've also heard good things about the Tex Murphy series, but it's one I never tried. Syberia is also pretty good, although it focuses more heavily on puzzle elements rather than story, which is generally my favourite part of the old point & click games.
If you absolutely must buy a newer series, the updated Monkey Island games are good and Telltale do good work. The Sam & Max series is fun, but it's also the only series of theirs I've really played. Pretty sure everything from their website is also on sale right now, so that's definitely worth checking out.
So in summary:
-GOG rocks, visit it.
-The Longest Journey (Brilliant!)
-Gabriel Knight
-Broken Sword
-Syberia (Maybe)
-Monkey Island
-Sam & Max
-Take a look at telltale's website and see if that sale is still going on.
Have fun!
