The two Monkey Island special editions are great and cheap.
Agreed.

The special editions were great, and the updated graphics really did them justice.
Now we wait for Monkey Island 3 Special Edition!

And a re-release of Day of the Tentacle would be awesome too.

Go to GOG (Good Old Games) instead and get Gabriel Knight, Longest Journey, and you can ever got a few FREE puzzle and adventure games on GOG. One of the free games is actually very good and is called Beneath a Steel Sky.

Sorry, just find GOG to be superior to steam or other digital services. Most of GOG's games are designed to play on modern computers I think.

although i doubt it is on steam, you should get beneath a steel sky from gog, fantastic little point and click game
I got that game for free when I signed up for GOG. I'm not sure why...

Also - I would recommend GOG for a lot of older point and click games - they spend a lot of time reworking older games so they will work on current system.

capthca: haphys hardened - getting a little risque, aren't they?

Steam itself is a point and click adventure game. You almost always finish with a lighter wallet and a whole bunch of nice shiny new gems to play with.

...sorry, OP, I don't really know any but I thought that was fairly clever.

Off-topic: The captcha is an ad? Wait, what kind of evil ************ puts an ad inside the captcha!?
i know right? these captchas are evil. they seem to always either be an ad or unintelligible gibberish. its hard enough reading those messed up letters without it being damn gibberish.

also thanks to major tom for the site reccomendation: kings quest 1-3 AND quest for glory 2 =D

No, one of the features which sets GOG.com apart from it's counterparts like STEAM is that GOG tweak the games to run on new systems. I often recommend against buying older PC games from STEAM for exactly that reason; they sometimes don't work.

GOG also doesn't use any sort of UI or platform. You buy the games from their site, receive a link to a download, download, install, enjoy. No hassle at all, no online activation required, nadda. Pay & download! The simplicity is why it's so brilliant.

Personally I'm a fan of the Gabriel Knight series, the Broken Sword series, and The Longest Journey, which I count as one of my all-time favourites. All available on gog. I've also heard good things about the Tex Murphy series, but it's one I never tried. Syberia is also pretty good, although it focuses more heavily on puzzle elements rather than story, which is generally my favourite part of the old point & click games.

If you absolutely must buy a newer series, the updated Monkey Island games are good and Telltale do good work. The Sam & Max series is fun, but it's also the only series of theirs I've really played. Pretty sure everything from their website is also on sale right now, so that's definitely worth checking out.

So in summary:

-GOG rocks, visit it.
-The Longest Journey (Brilliant!)
-Gabriel Knight
-Broken Sword
-Syberia (Maybe)
-Monkey Island
-Sam & Max
-Take a look at telltale's website and see if that sale is still going on.

Have fun!

I enjoyed Machinarium. A steampunk robot PnC game. Very nice graphically and quite challenging to me (I don't play many PnC games, so it may not be, I dunno).
Agreed.

Tough game. Wasn't prepared. Integrated guides. Not bad.

Great help and thanks to everyone!

Monkey Island. Aside from updated versions of the first two, it also has Telltale's five games. Good for a laugh and for quite a few puzzles, not all of which require you to get into the creators' mindset.

Great music too :)

I really disliked the board game, I finally had to look up a strategy for that one.
