Soundgarden [Ultramega Ok, Louder Than Love, Badmotorfinger] for punk/metal sound (sounds like Black Sabbath with Led Zepplin)Alice in Chains for its mix of grunge and heavy metal, Tool for its progressive style. ARRGGH. i cant be sure. my liking of music extends to just music that sounds good.

Pick up Grey Britain by Gallows. It's more towards the hardcore end of the punk spectrum, but there's some great songs on there and a good message behind it.

And also get either Sink Or Swim or The '59 Sound by The Gaslight Anthem. They're not particularly in any of the genres you mentioned, they're more classic bluesy rock, but everyone needs to check them out just because of how damn good they are. I prefer Sink Or Swim myself, but public opinion is that The '59 Sound is better.

According to many the best album -ever-: OK Computer by Radiohead. Haven't heard it myself, but I've heard great, great things.

Personal recommendation would be the album In Absentia, by Porcupine Tree. One of the best progrock bands of our time. They've even been called 'the Pink Floyd of today', and that, my friend, is what is known as a pretty big deal.

I am so seriously fucking tired of people complaining about bands 'selling out'. It makes me want to SCREAM. Your particular wording of it is hateful.

A larger audience. a larger audience! How DARE they want more people to know about like about their audience! You know what, they could probably live with only 100 fans. They should make music that only 100 people like. Corporate bastards.
I fail to see why I'm supposed to care what you think?
Because you thought we should care what you think. You know, the big capital MY in front of opinion you put in your post. I'm just putting mine.

Sorry if you took offence, none was meant.

Wrong, the OP asked for peoples choices. My choice, is what I stated. You then came back and called me a retard for MY opinion. Get bent, you hypocritical pos.

Fact is, bands and music in general is a form of expression. When a band is lured away from the ideals they originally formed their band for, in order to obtain a larger audience, they begin to lose any and all meaning to those who originally listened/enjoyed/understood their message. Therefore, as stated previously, at about 6mo's to the Black Albums launch, Hettfield/Ulrich & Co. lost their way, sold the name of their band down the river, and lost all credibility in my eyes.

Now, if you want to go ahead and voice your own opinion TO the OP, and not ME (As I never asked your opinion in the first place), by all means. But, don't even try to sell me the 'no offense was meant' routine. You brought this on yourself with name-calling.
Name calling?

I was ranting at people in general, not in particular at you. I had had punks whining the exact same thing at me all day, I was angry.

I'm not going to respond beyond this message because it's the internet, and what's the point.

I was actually making a joke on the whole "Have you tried not being gay?" some parents sometimes use.

ANYWAY.
Well, at least you've got an accent.
Max, how would you know that's a joke parents use for their gay children? did you come out of the closet and you parents used it on you?

MUST check

Monster Magnet - They make stoner rock, but trust me, try listening to it anyways, it's not as hard as the rest, but it might just grow on you...

Spineshank - Just listen to 'Play God' once.
