Hey fellow Escapist members. I have a rare opportunity tonight. I will be in the same room as a member of the Egyptian government. I can ask him...anything. So, I am American and one of the many things we are going to be talking about tonight is the question.

Should America even be involved in this?

I want to know if you had a chance to ask someone who is personally involved with whats happening in Egypt right now, what would you ask? I should say...if your question is good enough...I will steal it, and post his response if you care enough.

No, of course america shouldn't get involved. From everything that I understand about it, this is their civil rights movement. America had theirs, let Egypt do the same.

I gotta say, I really love how this is Egypt's situation, and yet the first question that springs to your mind is OMG SHOULD AMERICA BE INVOLVED? Can't something happen in another country which is whole continents away without America wading in and inevitably making it worse somehow? If anybody has the resources and the interest to wade in, it would be China. They're the next super power, after all, and if there are allies to be made they could use this protest to make them, especially if there are natural resources involved. :/

Anyway. My questions would be:
"Are the protesters being treated fairly by the authorities?"
"What is your view of the situation? Do you think he should have a sixth term?"
"What impact do you see this having upon the rest of the African continent?"
"Do you think the Egyptian military should have gotten involved in a peaceful civil rights protest?"
"Do you agree with the plain clothes policemen said to have infiltrated the crowds? Do you see them as agent provocateurs, or professionals just trying to keep a handle on the mood of the crowd?"
"Do you think the protests will end in violence?"

Why do Americans seem so so eager to invade a country at the slightest possibility of oil being involved?

America should stay out of Egypt, period. The current problems have arisen precisely because of America backing Mubarak for the last 30 years. It's also widely believed (correctly or not) that the guy in the front-running to replace Mubarak is also an American puppet. If he gets in that will mean bad things for Egypt. It really isn't important who runs Egypt as long as it's the Egyptian people deciding who represents them, not any outside force. That, after all, is what government is for.

Thread belongs in Religion And Politics, by the way.

If you want to ask him anything ask why Mubarak hasn't stepped down yet, and also maybe ask where the money is coming from that paid off the "pro-Mubarak" crowd to start violent clashes with the demonstrators.
