"Lafayette Ronald Hubbard said, "If you really want to enslave people, tell them that you're going to give them total freedom." "Battlefield Earth" seems to be saying, if you really want to divert people, insult them with garbage. Both theories are terribly flawed, but the second one is easier to see through because in this day and age people can spot a bad movie quicker than they can spot corrupt religions. The only perk in "Battlefield Earth" is that, in this case, they are one and the same."- Cole Smithy

That's all you need to know about Battlefield Earth.

Alien. First and last in terms of good space horror. Although 2001: A Space Odyssey is a fantastic space film, watch that

A "classic" in the sense that at least my dad loved it and he made me watch it, I would reccomend Event Horizon.

Because it's the only "space horror" movie I know.

Battlefield Earth, all the other ones weren't horror movies. Lots of good space movies not a ton of space horror = (. I'll watch this thread to see if I'm wrong.
Yes, this is a truly frightening film, it made me physically sick from watching it. If you want to see something that makes you lose faith in movies then definitely see it.

To the OP:

Alien
Event Horizon
Pitch Black

It's not horror but has a very surreal atmosphere that can actually sometimes be quite frightening in a certain way... 2001: A Space Odyssey

The Thing isnt really space horror. But it is still a very well done horror movie and a classic none the less.

Pandorum.
I felt a little uncomfortable the whole way through and its full of nasty suprises and action.
All-round ok story with good paid actors.
I was surprised. I thought it was going to be cack, but it pulled off a pretty okay film.

Sunshine (as you asked for space-sci-fis that not necessarily are horror movies) - one of the best more recent sci-fi movies; i must think hard to remember when there was the last time i've been so sucked into a movie; it's just SO atmospheric.
i think it has the potential to be a modern sci-fi classic, if i dare say so (if the odyssey fanboys give it a chance :p the biggest problem today with any medium is, in my opinion, that we have a tendency to judge things based on their age; if sth's young, it can be good, of course it can, but to be GREAT it must be old (if you catch my drift))

of course, as a good movie, it's about what it means to be (a) human. so, why are you still reading this, get the dvd and watch it - NOW!

and of course Alien (like, the first)
Precisely what I was going to suggest, actually! Incredible claustrophobic performances all round. Absolutely fantastic work by Danny Boyle.

It's horror from space :p. I actually meant The Thing From Another World from the 50's but the Carpenter version might be more appropriate.

In the interests of a balanced discussion, I'm going to have to say avoid Sunshine like the Plague. It is a really, really, really, REALLY truly awfully bad piece of awful dredge. After the good first half hour it just goes downhill really fast.

More of a pyschological mind bender than out and out horror, but watch 'Moon' starring Sam Rockwell. Now THAT is a modern Sci-Fi classic.

More from boredom, omfg that movie was boring. I got an idea for a film, but before I pitch it to you it has to include instrumental music, odd colors and some shots of scenery for atleast an hour. Also, pitch black is not horror. Why do people keep recommending it?

I really enjoyed that movie. Didn't want to suggest it because it wasn't really a horror in the same ways that he was suggesting, still a great movie to see if you can.

Space Horror? Well, damn, Alien is taken so there goes my go-to movie.

Hmm...well by memory there's Screamers, but I believe that's more thriller than horror (and kinda average, but worth putting in a marathon lineup).

For Sci-Fi, I'd suggest Splice because that movie loved its twisted moments and was suitably creepy. Maybe not horror per-se, but it incorporated horror themes into itself.

There's also The Cube, which again is more thriller than horror but has most of the normal tropes. I personally enjoyed it, but it eventually evens out and loses the horror vibe unfortunately.

Pretty much fringe-suggestions, but hope there's something for you there.

This might be a bit of stretch to call it horror, but try, "Sunshine". A large chunk of the first part of it is just really good Sci Fi. Towards the end, there's a lot of stuff that doesn't exactly fit the horror genre, but is scary, creepy and terrifying.

Well I thought the first half of doom didn't make much sense and all I thought through it was that it was a cheap remake of Alien but with better technology used. However when it got to the second half and all I saw was zombie killing from a FPP with the BFG I thought "Now I understand this!".

Alien and Predator movies are a good choice also I heard Pandorum gives a good amount of scares.

Though if you want real scares play a scarey game. Or better yet Silent Hill. Two Words. Pyramid! Head!
