Hey guys.

I know I am not the only one out there who is sick of hackers, trolls, lag switchers, extreme elitists etc. So I have finally decided to do something about it. I started a group (I know it is not much but it is a start). The idea behind the group is to promote and encourage good sportsmanship in games (and discourage bad sportsmanship).

The group is called Generation Game [GG] (see what I did there), and will not be limited to the Escapist (in fact I have already made a facebook group for it). An I encourage others to promte such (for lack of a better word) ideals.

I hope that some of you will be interested in joining and if you have any questions please message me.

Thanks for reading

edit - I also want a provide a place for gamers with this mentality to find others and have a good time

This sounds like a really good idea, if just to promote the idea of sportsmanship, as its not something you think of related to video games. I know you won't convince everyone, but just spreading the ideal of it may make some people think twice, and try to be nicer.

I like the idea, since I just try and enjoy times I do game, but as with anything (especially with sports such as Soccer(as we Americans call the sport) football(American)or others, fans and players alike will be douche bags. But its always nice that some people realize it's just a fucking game, and should be enjoyed sportingly.

I laughed at the title.
Then I read your post. I like the idea, but I'm just afraid it won't really help that much.
Personally, I try to be as sportmanshippy and polite as possible, but a lot of people seem to be complete douches, who really don't give anything about that.

It's a great idea, good sportsmanship in gaming is generally nonexistant. It's usually like playing with a bunch of sore losers. Their lossess are never their fault but their wins are, always. And when they're not pwning noobs they're laughing at other gamers who need help rather than being shat on.

I still dont see whats wrong with that.
Well being a fan and being a fanboy are very different things. If you just like something, you're a fan. If you arbitrarily defend something just because you own it personally and insult people about it for no reason other than blind ignorance to the fact other people buy/ like other things, you're a fanboy.

Hence being a fanboy is fairly deplorable and makes someone look like a whining child most of the time.

Kind of those who, yes are good at the game, but who also think they are better than everyone else. You tend to see them a lot in MMO games. Where it is there way or the highway.

I know a few people who are put off MMOs because of this mentality.

Fanboys may also be included in this too, with the "my way or the high way" mentality.

I'm assuming the word "asshole" is implied.

OT: I dunno, these things rarely turn out as well as you'd hope. Most people have very different opinions of what constitutes bad sportsmanship. Usually it depends on whether they are on the recieving end.

Will join. Will promote it.

Sportsmanship and honourable conduct should be promoted in all walks of life.

Ocassionally yeah, there's a certain satisfaction to beating down some kid with major fail rage going on; other times though it's just really annoying. Put it this way, have you ever been playing mutliplayer and had someone on the opposition actually congratulate you on your win and admit that you played well? There's rivalry and then there's being an ass.

That is what I am sick of I just want the idea out there, you know. That way people have somewhere if they want to be with like minded gamers who just want to have fun.

Honestly I agree, but there is a line to be drawn. Some people are just genuinely offensive in games, and spurt true obscenities that chances are they would not do in real life.
