Haha, it's not fanboying, don't worry. Maybe I should have explained this before, but he's a convert to anime, he absolutely despised it before, and he'd say every single one was pathetic before even watching it, but then I finally got him to watch Death Note, he liked it, he won't settle for your old average anime which consists of big breasts and sexual innuendos, he likes good storylines, so I managed to bring him over with DN.Lord RPGs said:Well, as far as something to be a little more stimulating than a show where we get fights that last entire Disks (And those fights suck anyway.), then I'd recommend the following.
Infinite Ryvius is a Sci-Fi Drama that lasts for 26 Episodes. ANN does plot summary well, so here's their page on said show - http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=411
Next, we have WXIII - Patlabor The Movie 3, another Sci-Fi-y drama. It's a feature-length movie, and once more, ANN's summary - http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=660
To conculde, I point you at Perfect Blue, another movie. This isn't a sci-fi, but is a drama, a thriller, and a murder mystery, all rolled into one package. ANN's mini-plot synopsis is here - http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=192
There you have it. Three thought provoking (Or at the very least, quite fantastic) Anime. Check the summary, and work out if your friend would like the sound of them. Or if you would, for that matter. I probably would recommend you both watch them, but if I said that, then I'd be /fanboying.
PlanetES. It's TV science fiction that is more serious than 99.9% of other TV science fiction.StarStruckStrumpets said:Haha, it's not fanboying, don't worry. I second this. If u look deeper into this anime, you will find themes such as evolution, growth, courage, maturity, and progress, even while u marvel at the absolute balls-out uber action and story-line, and its all deliberate, not a producer after-thought. NB anime is actually called Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagannjkeeling said:you could try "Tengen Toppa Gurren Langun". I dont usually enjoy 'giant battle mechs'storyline but i did enjoy this one. funny, exciting and it has great characters.

Whoa whoa, back that up! There's an anime based on Kino no Tabi??The only Anime I could recommend is Kino no Tabi. Won't say too much about it but it is still my favorite to date.
I agree with the fact that the symbolism shouldn't have been explained at the end of each episode, but I really enjoyed the whole dictionary part of it. Hell, I even asked my biology teacvher if she had heard of the Hayflick Limit, and the answer was "no"pigeon_of_doom said:Ergo Proxy is definitely thought provoking. I didn't think it was that good, and I lose respect quickly for anything that explains the symbolism and references at the end of each episode, but it might suit your friend.
Haibane Remnei is very good. Not much action, supernatural drama is probably the best way to describe it.
Neon Genesis Evangelion is also very thought provoking, the ending certainly makes your brain work to attempt to make any sense out of it. If your friend doesn't mind feeling confused and underwhelmed after committing almost 13hrs to a tv show then its a good watch.
