You sadly will not see any more V:TM games coming out now that Gehenna was reached and the story closed out. They probably will release a V:TR title, but I worry about the story elements. The history they are building with Requiem just doesn't feel as good as the Masquerade did, but maybe in a few years it will come into itself.
okay yea I wasn't even going to suggest Gehenna (vampire apocalypse for the uninitiated), but how cool would that be in a game? You're a newly created vampire and bam gehenna midway through the game? Odd that they've already done it though, but I don't follow the table top game.

@mrsnugglesworth: kinda disagree there buddy, not much of a fan of werewolves, they have no depth other than "ZOMG ONCE A MONTH I PMS AND TURN INTO A WOLF KILLING MACHINE"

But hey you made me add another point to my list.

and you bring up an interesting point

I've always thought a good vampire game would have to have these elements.
1) more than one type of vampire: i loved what vampire the masquerade did with the whole clans thing that was brilliant
2) a love interest, and before you say that's gay i'd like to say how cool it would be if that love interest was a human and worked for you during the day, or protected you during daylight hours, or something... it would be nice to see a love interest pulled off in an actually engaging way... and let's face it romance and vampires kinda go hand in hand (to quote yahtzee yes my new vag is growing in nicely)
3) daylight does damage (twilighters can stfu)
4) sandbox type of game, i've played... was it bloodrayne? anyways yea it was linear and that kind of annoyed me... plus i'd love to be able to walk into a bar and get a drink
5) close relationship with your sire, and/or flashback scenes where your player controlled vampire 'remembers' something that happened to him a century ago, this would be a good way to vary gameplay (ex: find a safe hiding place while being chased by a mob with pitchforks and torches)
6) a van hellsing after your undead ass, what vampire is complete without one?
7) concealing the fact that you are a vampire, ex: no powers in front of people on the street(again a vampire the masquerade rip off, sue me that game had greatness in it) i can imagine points being deducted as the game shows a 'cellphone' pic that someone took as you were doing something cool like outrunning a car, or jumping over a building or lifting a car
8) health regeneration by drinking blood (again obvious)
9) health packs as blood packs

yea those are my contributions...
10) character customization, beyond that of joining a vampire clan, but also playing through a part (I would make this optional) where you're human and some decisions you make decide on how people interact with you later on. This could be done by selecting a preset bio (ex: your character was a thief, or a businessman), or it could literally be done by giving the character a preset amount of money and him deciding where to spend it (ex: inheritance from dead parents) and game content is decided based on what apartment/house you buy... what car you get... and what job/degree your character has. I would make this optional as i mentioned before because I hated the part where you were not a jedi in KOTOR 1 (the good one). You could choose to select all this based on text, but I would make it so gamers that play as a human up to their transition get rewarded with extra gear (again masquerade-esque, where you get the lockpick and other items you have to buy if you don't play the tutorial).

11) okay have to post this too, the ability in vampire masquerade to get a new apartment was pretty cool, but it really didn't affect the game. You should be able to purchase 'safe houses' or even a storage facility in a vampire game. It would also be nice to have a managed club in which you could invest money and attract victims... i mean customers. ala the castle you get in neverwinter nights... 'daily' quests could come from here from your customers, be it in taking care of a problem a girl is having with a stalker, or your bartender doesn't like certain people.

12) another thing i loved about masquerade was the bounty hunting side quest of the game. that should be incorporated as part of the game.

13) a tree of skills known as 'vampire senses' should be incorporated, i would love to be able to select a target from across the room, trigger 'hearing' and be able to listen in on his conversation, it would be a hard mechanic to program i would imagine, but you could use that for all sorts of things (see splinter cell on that one mission where you aim that laser device at the glass of the elevator to listen in on the convo)

14) again with the senses, to be able to follow someone's scent trail in game would be pretty cool, this to me would involve a character screen in which people you come into contact with are added based in 'smell', the ability to track down people based on this smell could be an integral part of locating people on bounty hunting quests (ex going to their apartment and smelling their laundry, then hunting)

15) one thing masquerade lacked was good night vision, there were ironically plenty of times in the dark that I couldn't see well and that struck me as odd, you could model this after prototype's 'infected vision'

16) ability to modify appearance... okay clothes in a game are seriously underrated in some areas, a vampire we assume is immune to cold and heat, so dressing your vampire in shorts and a t-shirt during a new york winter could draw attention to you... don't know how important this would be to a player, but yea there it is

17) on that note, thermal cameras and a gameplay mechanic of having to be freshly fed with warm blood to be able to get past one registering as human

18) 'modes' of appearance... okay in a lot of vampire stories you've got changing eye color and retractable fangs along with variation of pigment in skin color as willed by the vampire. now it can suck to switch between 'disguise' and 'combat' modes, but i still think at least bears consideration, and could be an effective way to switch from 'humans can't see me for what i am mode' and 'i'm going to kill you all mode'

list is getting long... i was hoping more of you would contribute some good ideas... my apologies to the game developer that tries to pick up all this, at this point in time including all this could make for a disjointed or buggy game. really what i'd like to see is a game with my first 12 and number 15, i'd be more than happy with that.
19) you must be able to kill a werewolf at some point in time during the game

i think this would be the greatest game ever. oh oh and if the vampires and their powers etc were modelled after anne rice's vampires this would be love. XD

@emilie diabolica: while I agree with the statement that anne rice's books and movies may be the greatest thing to ever happen to those respective medias I can't say that I would like their powers modeled after her particular set of vampires and here's why.

They do not possess stereotypically "vampiric" magical powers, such as changing into bats, but some of the stronger, older ones do have the power to fly. Most of them also have the power to read the thoughts of mortals and weaker vampires. They have other physical abilities: they can move very quickly (faster than human eyes can see), and possess great strength and extremely keen senses. Very old vampires or ones who have been made or strengthened by feeding on blood that is close to the root of the vampiric mother may have additional gifts like the ability to move matter with the mind and the ability to set things ablaze by the force of will. They have many artistic talents, like singing, painting and acting, and a preternatural "understanding" of any type of problem, puzzle or machine. They also have the uncanny ability to almost perfectly mimic anything (movement, playing musical instruments, etc.).
the reason I've been sucking off masquerade so much is because out of all the games elements, truly the best was the variation in vampire powers.

Brujah: vampire combat abilities of speed and strength as well as something else can't remember these would have to be universal ideally though, but you could make them even stronger than the others were you to do a make of the game i described

Gangrel: animal shapeshifting, ability to grow claws and such

Malkavian: mind control again, and ability to drive others insane, hampered by the fact that they are insane

Nosferatu: invisibility, necessary cause out of all of the clans they actually look like monsters

Toreador: the 'handsome' vampires, those that rely on persuasiveness and human interaction, a little stupid for my purposes, but hey they have their place

Tremere: blood mages, nuff said

Ventrue: ruling upper class, good mix of all, but limited to upper class society blood, they get sick eating hobos.

again don't mean to shoot your contribution down or anything, i personally just find anne rice... a bit limited. Although I would blatantly steal her flashback way of presenting interview with a vampire in the game I envision (see number 5)

The Universe of the Sookie Stackhouse novels would be awesome. That'd be True Blood for all of you unfamiliar with the books. In the series, vampires have "come out of the coffin", as they call it, and live in relative tolerance with humans.

You could have the option of playing either a telepath, a vampire (you would have different abilities to choose from), a shifter,
the shifters being either pure breed, like werewolves, weretigers, etc, or ones that can turn into multiple animals, or demons, witches/sorcerers, or fairies (like badass modernized LOTR style fairies)

There's so much potential story-wise, as you'd have political intrigue and infighting between the Kingdoms (what the supes call the different states in the series), and constant fighting against the Fellowship of the Sun, a group of humans hell bent on destroying the vampires, as they believe them to be an abomination against God. Of course this would have to be done in secret as much as possible, in order to keep the public, or other, more diplomatic vampire factions, from turning on you.

Is it necessary for the twilight flame in the end there?

I'm not going to call you a troll, but for god's sake, do not show the characteristics of one.

you know what's interesting above poster? according to your post history you've been posting similar pro-twilight things on anti-twilight threads...

ugh... I'm going to have to watch all of true blood aren't i? *sigh* this actually makes me slightly angry.

I myself could not get into true blood, because the vastly superior (and sadly canceled for no good reason) moonlight series was what I watched first...

I will concede that the series had its moments, but the sex scenes put in I felt were for shock value alone and did not add to the story significantly. And before you call me 'gay' or whatever try to remember that I originally tried to watch this with my parents having no effing clue that that would be in it.

I do agree with you though Gaderael... with a condition. That would only be really good in an MMO where updates could balance the different classes. A vamp, or a shapeshifter would totally outclass a telepath in moving around and combat in the sandbox game I personally envision. In fact I'm not even 100% on how you would include a telepath in a game like that as anything other than a support character. Wait yea that would be a decent healing/recon/buff character in an MMO nevermind.

But in Oblivion you couldn't fast travel while in the sunlight(which really pissed me off). It was really realistic though, but they should make a vampire game like the Oblivion vampire side quest....just a little easier.

well if you got a PS2 that can play games in the original Japanese format then there is a Hellsing game you may want to look into. All I know is that for an anime based game its apparently halfway decent I believe a shooter and even by Japanese standards is violant.

Maybe an MGS style stealth game where you had to infiltrate and destroy the headquarters of a vampire hunting faction, sneaking up on enemies and the occasional in the crossfire innocent to drink their blood which powers abilities like becoming a vampire bat or invisiblilty or something, or even turn them into other vampires that you have remote control of and can use them to bypass security or to create a distraction so you can slip in unnoticed. Or alternatively, that, but you're hunting an organization of Twilight vampires. I think both would work really well.

man i dunno basing an entire game off a sidequest of a game that had "click to hit" and "click to hit again" style fighting would get old... where are the powers and combos associated with being a vampire?

easier? easier than what? dude a vampire is meant to shit it's pants on seeing the sun rise, making it easier wouldn't be much fun... i mean i personally like a game with some challenge.

@once and future king: I personally love the hellsing series, so much so that if that game sucked or I got frustrated with the japanese voices I may go into a bloodrage. oh and i love the richard avatar.

Legacy of Kain was... the writing and acting was great! Some of the gameplay was irritating. Definatly last gen all the way. Blood Omen is THE original badass vampire game, despite the top down graphics. I still reccomend it if you have a PS or PS2.

You play Kain, a machiavellian if not completely evil noble who is brutally murdered in a random act of mugging. Unable to accept death, you make a deal with Mortanius the Necromancer, to return as a vampire in exchange for a service. You return and immediatly slaughter your former killers, and then are confronted with your task- The Defenders of the Pillars, the magical symbols of Nosgoth, have become corrupted thanks to the madness unleashed on them by one of their own. You hunt and kill each of these during the game, at one point even time hopping to prevent an invasion by killing a just and noble king who would later become the brutal warlord Nemesis- in an elaborate plot by one of the circle to kill you. Eventually you slay everyone and are confronted with the fact YOU are the last pillar avatar, and to complete your task you must slay yourself. Or damn the world.

...

...

After that I feel the series slowly got too crazy, being more about time mechanics and free will and shit.. but it was still awesome.

Following that was Soul Reaver: Legacy of Kain. Guess what? Kain chose to damn the world.

...

You play Raziel, seeking revenge on Kain and your brothers for damning you for simply evolving before Kain. Throughout the course of the game you do so, discovering in your mortal life you were a Serafan Knight- a vampire hunter. You confront Kain at last.

...

Following that was Soul Reaver 2, naturally, which picked up immediatly where the last game ended.

...

And you discover more secrets, that you, Kain, and the Elder God who ressurected you are not all that they seem. And you decied...to break time.

...

Then there was Blood Omen 2. We don't talk about it. it wasn't the same writers, it had continuity errors up the Wazoo. Officially the events of that game were declared temporal anomoly and never happened due to the events in LoK:SR2 and LoK:D

Then, we had Legacy of Kain: Defiance. I don't want to ruin the end, but it ties up all the threads and leaves you on a cliffhanger.

By easier I mean not having my entire health bar drained in a matter of seconds in the sunlight. That just got annoying after a while of not being able to feed without getting caught, but I see what you mean about basing a entire game off a sidequest.
