I can see where China's coming from with all the censorship, but it will only make the situation worse when the information all comes flooding out.
Also I got the feeling that Google seems to think it's better than China. If China wants to block stuff off that's just something China or the UN or whoever is in charge of this stuff, has to deal with. Not Google.
Everything below this paragraph is beside the point, but rather answering other parts. Google isn't acting 'better' than China, and they're not angry at this time because of censorship. They're pissed because someone is screwing with their Gmail servers and all of the traits of the attack seem to point to a government institution - which is to say, the Chinese government.

And now, to directly address your latter comment: Google doesn't like censoring their information - it's a personal pride thing. They supply this awesome and useful product and the government says "Cut out this, this and this - oh, and this! Can't have that!" That would annoy anyone. They're not saying they're better than China, they just don't like offering half a service

2, Yes the censorship IS an issue for Google, since they're the ones directly dealing with it. The Censorship is an issue between Google and China - not China and the UN. Google is functioning as a company-entity, stating that it would much rather not be quite so crippled in its actions. Issues between a company and the government in charge are not really under the purview of the UN - they lie solely between the company and the government.

Bets are now accepted. My money is on Google.
My bet is on a billion screaming chinamen
Google Vs. Chinese GOVT.
It could be a huge electronic war, censorship vs information. Whoever gets their version of the truth through to the populace wins.
it's mirror's edge time! mirror's edge takes place in china right?

Holy shit, my gmail account was accessed by someone in China and so was my brother's. I immediately changed the password.

Does anyone see a trend here?
Edit: I don't know if it is possible that a hacker could use a proxy that says he is in China but still..
Edit 2: Sends email to friends "Long live the infallible leader of China"
*shudders* Just checked my gmail and fortunately, the only one who ever accessed it was me. It's a fairly new account though, so it's not like I have much in it...
As for your edit 2, I thought one would only have to say such things in North Korea... But then again, they don't have access to the internet...
What he's describing sounds like a routine hacking attempt to forward malware spam. (I had to rotate my G-mail password the other day over a similar incident.) China doesn't have anyone with "Infallible Leader" titles, so either the hacker or the poster doesn't know that.
They didn't send any emails though. Apparently that just logged onto my email and thats it.

The PRC and the CCP need to be overthrown its tirade of forcing abortions, imprisoning peaceful protesters and censoring the news needs to stop. While we here in America can see the Libya revolution as an obvious cry from the people for democracy, they don't hear about it at all, or even worse, are told by their government that this spilled blood is all that democracy has to offer. The day will come when the CCP pays for the atrocities it has dealt to mankind, I just pray that I am there to see them get the punishment they deserve.
Me too.... Me too.

But that will be a horrible mess when it happens. China's revolutions and civil wars tend to be bloody. REALLY bloody.

I have a serious question: What happens if the current Government is thrown, with the current US Debt?

Its not to long before this shit is gunna happen in the US too. We start on our first movement towards this when ISPs all over America are moving to a bandwidth cap for net speed. They are also trying to backdoor in censorship laws that make posting a video on youtube with copyrighted material in it a Federal Offense.

This means that net reviewers, AMV creators, Let's Players, etc are all in danger of going to Prison for what are imo pretty much better then anything on TV. (of course this will effect actual people guilty of piracy too but collateral damage much?)

The people upstairs just can't be happy until they clamp down complete control. That is their one downfall, the one thing that will truly keep humanity grounded on earth until every resource is mined out of the earth.

That or I'm just a paranoid crazy person, which is entirely possible.

Communist China's days are numbered. It may not be today. It may not be until 10 years from now. But their government, will eventually come to an end. Capitalism has been encroaching on their government for over a decade now. It's only a matter of time.
