Couldn't give any information on Star Formation, SED or YSO. Not very useful for me I must say.

I asked it.....How many licks does it take to get to the center of a tootsie pop?......the answer? The world may never know. Pure awesomeness.
I can't believe you'd create a sock puppet account just to bump your own thread and advertise more.
How do you know he did so? Did you investigate?

wow what's everyone's frickin problem...he's just recommending something for our own entertainment.

honestly how many people do you know wake up and go "hey, you know, I think I'm going to piss some people off today! How should I go about doing that...I know! I'll tell people to see District 9! That should work!"

honestly if you get pissed off that easily you've got issues

It's fun. Always wanted to know how old I am in days.
7260 it is, as of today.

EDIT: Sweet, it knows the current weather where I live (a small village in Germany, the fact that it knows it at all is astounding).
It is fun to play around with.

to be honest, this is rather too much like advertising to be a legit. thread, but its still a pretty clever engine, but i personally won't be jumping the google ship just yet

Q: How many roads must a man walk down before you can call him a man?
A: The answer my friend, is blowing in the wind.

Q: How awesome are Square-Enix
A: I don't know what to do with that input.

If it doesn't know how awesome Square-Enix are, then I don't trust it.

!EDIT!

Q: why are you here?
A: I am doing computation for the world.

Ok, that earns bonus points.

Wolfram Alpha has been out for ages and is completely different to Google, its more problem finding then general searched.
If you had bothered to ask WA it's release date you would know it was only just released on May 15- not 'ages' ago. You would also know that May 15 was
3 months 19 days ago
15 weeks 6 days ago
79 weekdays ago
0.3041 years ago

135th day of the year
20th week of the year

Birth of James Mason (actor) (1909): 100th anniversary
Birth of J. Caleb Boggs (politician) (1909): 100th anniversary
Birth of Andrew Eldritch (musician) (1959): 50th anniversary
Birth of Brian Eno (music producer) (1948): 61st anniversary
Birth of L. Frank Baum (novelist) (1856): 153rd anniversary

and had a waning gibbous moon that evening. :)

Seriously, though- I like WA. I think it has more potential than some people give it credit for. Ultimately it's ability to compare and corellate data could lead to significant sociological or other insights. It *does* need more information in it's database, but that will come.

You're absolutely right to say it's completely different from Google. Using Wolfram Alpha as an Internet search engine makes about as much sense as using a fusion reactor to bake a cake. While you could technically use it for that purpose if you reworked the plumbing appropriately, that completely misses the point of the experiment.

Damn, I'm running out now.

Graham Norton and Hugo Weaving :p
I share mine with Malcolm X
I don't know who that is, so I'm calling it a win for me ;)

Also, for some reason typing in 'you lost' brings you to the page for Mustard Gas. Odd.

well err thats nice...
but I fear you are wrong. It may do some things that Google can't, but google is simple and that is what the human mind often needss.

Edit: Tbh I can't even remember the name of it, so that is defnitly a sign of me never using it again...

Everyone typing in stuff for films is completely missing the point.

Type in a gene (I suggest titin) or a base sequence (TATA) or a protein (insulin)
Ask it the position of the ISS.
Get the spread of names over time.
Give it a second order differential equation.
Type in your lunch (simple foods only, white bread + 2 eggs + half a glass of milk, can't manage complex foods like "lasagne") and get it to break down the nutrition for it.
Ask it the volume of 3 grams of strychnine.
Get comparative graphs of stock prices.

Yes, lots of this can be done with wikipedia and a calculator. A scientific calculator. And a graphing program. And a maths degree.

In short, it ROCKS.
