I wow MAJOR respect to these guys if they follow through with it. I already love google and what they do. Glad to see that what is essentially the biggest player of the internet is against SOPA. A day without these sites is worth getting our message out about SOPA. Very reassuring.

Passive aggression is my favorite kind of aggression.

I hope they do it. Without google and such, most people can't even function anymore. When all of those sites shut down, it will show congress how against this everyone is.

Love this idea it will certainly get people's attention on sopa when they can't check their facebook profiles for period longer than 5 minutes. I think more sites should do similar things. I'd love to see sites refuse to advertise products of sopa supporters, or all review sites giving 0/10 scores for games published by sopa supporters.

So they are going to fight SOPA by self inflicting the damage the bill would do pre-emptively to its passing? Seems like a good idea. Of course they need to put why in place of the service or people will just piss and moan at facebook and google rather than internet skull fuck bill number #5698734 that would end up doing this.

A few people are intent on seeing this through rose tinted glasses. Google and co. ain't standing up for the little guy, they're standing up for themselves. It would certainly be interesting to watch. Hope it happens.

They should put a message saying "Blocked by SOPA" followed by some info on SOPA and PIPA and some links to help people protest.

Oh my god, yes, do it! with these juggernauts offline for 1 day, then pretty much EVERYONE will be forced to face SOPA and what it could mean to the internet.

This is a great idea, youtube in particular will be badly effected by SOPA, everyone needs to be forced to wake up and smell the oppression.

Those websites make an astounding amount of money every damn day. Nothing'll get those congress b******s sweating about the threats of SOPA like seeing how much money will be lost from the american economy, just through those few sites being down for a single day.
On the other hand, I'll bet Bing is excited.

That'd take some massive Brass Balls to pull a move like that Google is used by a very large number of businesses in many different fashions. If they took down all their services then I'd foresee some pissed off people. A lot of companies and private users use Google Docs for example, and I'd bet that a lot of websites integrate Google services fairly deeply.

I sort of want them to do it. For no other reason than we'll see how much the internet relies on one company.

They should do it and have a message telling everyone to email/call X person/place. A billion emails would likely shut this bill down within minutes.

Hope they go through with it, these are the biggest social media sites and can get the attention of a huge audience that has never even heard of the SOPA bill. It would no doubt drum up immense knowledge about it and un-doubtably lead to senators being forced to deny the bill.

SOPA won't pass if it risks fucking up people's Facebook and Twitter.

I hope it does happen as it will give the bill a kick in the crotch and hopefully give some other people a wake up call. I will admit it will probably hamper some services related to these but it would give them a serious wake up call.

I will be so happy if they do it. This will grab everyone's attention and show them how much we have to lose. Not just for internet users, but the economy as well, seeing as how these corporations bring in so much cash. I think the senate wouldn't have much of a choice if this has the desired reaction.

Google could kill this bill instantly by threatening to permanently blacklist its supporters...

Still, this will bring the issue to the awareness of the public at large, which could be just as effective. We shall see.

Will we still have Skype, though? Otherwise I kinda have no way to contact my friends for a day. xD

I think it'd be interesting though, I'd like to see it done. :D
Skype is Microsoft now. So it'll crash just as usual. :)

This made me chuckle.
OT: I want to see this happen really bad. Hopefully it will help some people open their eyes about what kind of shit this bill could bring.
